Twinstar EA300 V - thoughts on two photoperiods to avoid algae?
Recently invested in two of these and chose them over Chihiros WRGB II Slim because I heard there were measurable improvements with their app, and I don’t need quite that much firepower in a low tech dirtied tank.
However - I’ve now learned that even though they advertise in the app as being able to set two separate photoperiods, this is not true of the lights I bought. I can only set one! My manual lights timer from 2008 even has this capability. Not impressed.
I have set two photo periods since I first started keeping planted tanks due to advice from other aquarists that this would help reduce algae. Is there a chance this is a myth? I’ve never tested it myself. Lights are otherwise fine.
I could use the lights with smart timers to have two photo periods but that completely defeats the point of paying a premium for a light controlled by an app.
Now I’m stuck - should I return the lights and buy the chihiros, which are a bit more expensive and which I probably won’t ever run near full brightness anyway? Run these with smart timers? Or is one photo period actually fine anyway and it’s just a myth?
