Flora Update

Hey all! Some might remember me from some months ago when my partner and I were gifted a betta fish, a 2.5 gallon tank and thats it.

Thank you for all your help on fish-in cycling and giving me all the tips I needed to keep her healthy along with upgrade ideas!

Anyways here she is finally in her CYCLED 10 gallon tank, meeting an amano shrimp for the first time. Was very worried she was going to attack them so we let the amano live in the tank for 3 weeks before adding flora. 🤞

Introducing Rainbow Daddy

Named by my three year old and advertised as a dragon scale betta, but I’m not sure if that is correct?

He’s in a 10 gallon with 4 wood shrimp, however I haven’t seen the shrimp since adding him in this morning so I fear they may have been eaten.

Saving Purdy

I came into my office this morning to a bowl with a small amount of water and this fish. I ran to the store and grabbed a thermometer and water conditioner and increased the water level and put it in a warm room.

I haven't had fish in ages, my dad was the expert so I grew up with them but I don't know the ways like he did lol

I'm looking for advice, opinions, suggestions.

I plan to do another water change tomorrow, I want that food out of there. All the orange are food pellets, I scooped a bunch out already.

How do I balance improving the environment without stressing this poor fish any more than I have to?

I am trying to decide which tank to go with... 5-10 gallons.. a heater, maybe not plants yet but definitely something to hide in and rest on.

I'm trying to get things going asap, my crew decided to call her/him Perdy, but it'll be coming home with me once I get a tank going.

thank you in advance!

Dante's first photoshoot!

Might not be competition quality, but he knows how to put on a show and get people looking even if they are not into fish! Such a bold, confident and downright fiery little creature. Ready for modelling requests to start coming in any moment now. Look at that little face! 🥹

Having him around is such a treat. ❤️

But also, it's nice getting a closer look of some of the things that are easy to overlook! Like the sensory pots, tiny scales covering the fin rays, white or translucent ends on the scales,... Ah, hoping to get a better camera/lens in the near future for much better closeups of these details!

My first tank :)

You are welcome to rate it as well. It’s a six gallon corner style tank. I probably got my fish early but he is doing great. I also have a mystery snail which I find entertaining and a nerite snail who escaped once. He hangs out above the water. I don’t think he’s happy and I don’t know why. My fish is a crown tail (Mr. Fins) and he seems to be a happy and healthy fish.

Just rescued this guy. Anything else I can do to help him?

He was very lethargic and I can't believe he even survived THAT high ammonia. (obv tested from his bag) My tank parameters are ammonia 0/nitrites 0/nitrates 5. His poor tail and fins are so clamped up. I've added indian almond leaves and just hoping he'll feel better soon. At least he seems interested in the mystery snail... and wood... and plants. He's very inquisitive.

bye blue 💙

my beautiful boy 'blue' is gone officially. i put him to rest after seeing him struggle and i no longer wanted that to continue. i did cry doing it. i will miss him so much. thank you to this subreddit for helping me as long as possible. i've taken in so much information. i will miss him as i stare at the empty tank in my room. i only had him for two years but those were filled with joy and pride having a sweetie like him. i hope his soul is watching over me. i don't regret getting him at all and i am so lucky to have had him as my first pet ever. he kept me company when i was lonely, sad, and anxious. i was so happy seeing him use the new hiding spots or resting on the plants i got him. eee i had a blast. bye baby :(

Welcome Iris

Unfortunately, my baby female betta, Mika, has passed away a couple days ago before her medicine arrived… I’m not sure why she passed (seemed like some sort of bacterial infection) but i’m guessing it had to do with the patch of missing scales she had since i first ever bought her. Sip Mika, while i didn’t have you for long, hopefully i could give you a comfortable life…

After her passing i decided to look for a new betta and i came across this guy! Decided to name him Iris, he’s been doing really great in his new home. I absolutely adore his colors, and now i have two beautiful blue boys! Here are some photos i managed to get of him, and one of my fave photos of my little girl Mika :(

When to start feeding

After rescuing a betta with swim bladder and almost no fins three days ago he hasn’t been eating and I’ve been giving him soaks in Epsom salt water for 10 minutes once a day. How long should I do soaks for. He finally ate a pellet today so I’m having more hope but should I be feeding him while doing these soaks? I’m also having to do a fish in cycle if that’s of any importance.

First-Time Betta Owner, Concerned About My Betta

Hello, about 2.5 days ago, I noticed that my betta, Nexus, was very bloated around his tummy area. After consulting with people in a facebook group and giving info (10gal tank planted, weekly water changes, temperature is 26C, 3 pellets daily, fasting on wednesdays, bloodworms thursday, repeat. I know now, that's terrible.), it turns out that it was diet-related bloating. Still, my local fish store told me to treat for everything just in case, which I now see wasn't really necessary. They had me put a tbsp of aquarium salt and some ethylene blue in my tank and told me I didn't need a hospital tank.

I went to the store and bought daphnia, where I fed it to him the morning after. His tummy went down by the time I got home from being out all day. However, Nexus is still chilling around the bottom of the tank, which I haven't seen him do before.

I don't see any signs of dropsy. No pineconing, weird swimming, nothing. He chills at the bottom and sits in place for a few minutes before moving around again sort of like he's resting (no gasping), and sometimes sits in place near the surface for a while before moving again.

Is he just tired? In pain? I performed a 25% waterchange this morning to get the aquarium salt and ehylene blue outta there, and bring the nitrates down. I also fed him a little more daphnia after fasting for the weekend to make sure his system is flushed out.

Thank you in advance. I really hope my baby is okay. I don't want him to be in pain and I don't want to lose him, and I already feel horrible that he got so bloated because of how I was directed to feed him.

Temporary Tank advice needed!

I have a candy betta that my little fish bestie and also my cats bestie.

Unfortunately I have to relocate him to a family members house for 3-4 months while I have surgery and heal.

I won’t be moving my 7.2 gallon mature aqua scaped tank cause that’s way too much work and I’d have to completely pull it down too many times for comfort.

SO here’s my question, I plan on buying a temp tank for him to live in at my family members house that I will lightly aquascape and cycle prior to his big move. I was looking at a 2.5 gallon. Do you think that will work for just a few months while he’s being babysat?

He will come back home to his big tank once I can actually care for him.

Thoughts on aquarium?

Hi!! I will soon be getting my first fish ever! (betta)

This is my first aquarium. Thoughts on my tank set up? I’m letting it cycle for now. I definitely plan to add more plants. Any suggestions?

u/bonjuors — 4 hours ago

Any guess on what tail type he'll grow into?

This is my juvenile betta, yurde. I bout him when he was around 7 weeks old. Now he's maybe about 4 months? He's a really big fish for his age, it has me wondering if he's some type of king betta.

Make or Female?

I purchased this copper alien betta. It was said to be a male. I’m not the best with alien identification because I’ve never seen a female. But I noticed female traits and an egg spot. Maybe it’s too young to identify or if anyone has input it would be appreciated.

What small schooling fish should I add?

This is my 20 gallon long. I currently have 14 pygmy corydoras, 5 otocinclus, 20+ neocaridina shrimp, and 3 nerite snails.

My LFS told me I should add another small school of fish before I add my female betta, Regina George, to this tank.

I want something that will look nice but also get along nice with everything else.

I have been to every LFS and cant decide. These are what I can get locally at the moment and I have mo experience with any of them:

emerald eye rasboras

harlequin rasboras

chili rasboras

neon tetras

rummynose tetras

ember tetras

black phantom tetras

gold phantom tetras

zebra danios
