Parallels with Downton Abbey

This is speculation and a discussion but I had to add a spoiler tag because in enumerating the parallels between these shows, I will be sharing some of the storyline. So, since some of the same people are behind this show - not sure of the writers etc because I haven't looked this up but there are so many similarities, jokes etc. I'm not against this, I just find it interesting.

The hard and traditional matrons Agnes and Violet - similar in that they are both obstinate and this is humorous most of the time although difficult for other characters.

The good guy footman who becomes a success - although this happened more quickly in GA than it did in DA. In DA, it was the housemaid who became a secretary then went onto bigger things.

The upper most staff members of a house becoming romantically involved - although with GA it was the cook and housekeeper instead of the butler and housekeeper.

Borden (Russell's chef) having problems with his estranged wife threatening to expose secrets (his - not the family's) until she dies - similar to Bates.

The footman who threatens to pour soup on an important guest - it was a high ranking military officer in DA and the Duke in GA but they were both stopped at the last moment.

There are gay figures who have to hide their true nature although this time it's upstairs rather than downstairs. This isn't as big of a parallel. I like that they explore this in many period shows because it is important to reveal how things might have been for people who had to deal with this in society back then.

Jokes - one at least about King Cnut in GA and a couple in DA I think. Also the "I'm going up to change" and response "I think you'll come down without having changed at all" joke in both shows.

There must be more. If you have any more parallels, please share in the comments!

I just thought I would put this out there as a recommendation. It's a very unique movie and touches on spiritual topics but in a fun way. It's light hearted but tells a lovely if quirky story.

These photos are unedited. I felt grateful that evening to witness this wonderful scene.

It was such a pleasure to be so close to this guy. He climbed down the tree in front of me and pretty much posed for this shot. Don't you love the natural hair comb over?
