An Iranian Man named Moody (Alfred Molina) brings his wife Betty (Sally Field) and his daughter Mahtob (Sheila Rosenthal) to Iran for a so-called two week visit. Unfortunately, after the two weeks were up, he says they are staying in Iran forever. Now, Betty has to figure out a way to get back to America with her daughter.

After their father dies, 4 kids and their mom go to live with her estranged parents. The kids are kept in a room and are at the mercy of their overly religious grandmother (Louise Fletcher).
