I went ahead and bought a dozen leather jackets from the local thrift shop. I live in Florida so I got quite the haul.

After I started wearing my own vest, I’ve been getting compliments daily and am asked if I make them regularly. So I’ve decided to start. I’m going to start with some themed jackets. I’m going to make a few hip-hop ones with some Biggie and Tupac type of patches. Maybe some graffiti, but also spikes and studs and death. Like a typical death metal battle jacket but with good hip-hop. At least half of the compliments I get are from cool black dudes. There seems to be a market for “urban” battle jackets, so that’s what I’m gonna do. Also other non-metal themes like cat ladies and horror movies. I figure I could put $50 and some love into these and turn around and sell them, locally and online, for like $300. I couldn’t believe how good these jackets are. Like black butter. But I’m also experimenting with women’s fits. So hopefully in a few weeks I’ll be posting some finished jackets. I’m calling it WARdrobe.
