A Chinese emperor obsessed with Taoism.

The Jiajing Emperor (September 16, 1507 – January 23, 1567), personal name Zhu Houcong, was an emperor of the Ming dynasty.

The Jiajing Emperor was a devout follower of Taoism. Not only did he practice the religion himself, but he also demanded that all his officials honor it as well. Obsessed with Taoist alchemy and elixirs, he dispatched people across the empire to collect lingzhi (reishi mushrooms) and frequently consumed pills concocted by Taoist priests.

He bestowed upon himself numerous Taoist titles, the longest of which include the following⬇️

[FangYuan Core] You now see an adult man with long black hair, wearing ancient Chinese clothing and a calm face. You don’t know who he is, but a name suddenly pops into your head.

If you could travel to a world of cultivation, and at midnight every day you had the choice to return to Earth with your current power level (knowing that once you return, you can never go back), would you enter that world? If so, at what level of cultivation would you choose to return?

Your talent is above average, no cheat or overpowered systems, but you are guaranteed not to be a talentless loser.

It is a randomly generated world of cultivation, using common cultivation worldviews, but there are no characters or plots that you can know in advance.

You are also guaranteed entry into a cultivation sect, whether it be righteous or demonic is up to you.

The catch is that you only have the chance to return to Earth once a day at midnight. You cannot choose to return while in the middle of a life-or-death battle.

It is essentially a gambler's dilemma of knowing when to quit while you're ahead.

If your cultivation isn't strong enough, your life-risking journey will only make you a slightly stronger and longer-lived ordinary person back on Earth.

However, if you want to reach higher realms before returning, you must risk your life seeking opportunities for breakthroughs and fighting other cultivators, which causes your risk of death to skyrocket.

If you back earth, you will retain your original power, but you will not be able to increase it further.

If so, at what level of cultivation would you choose to return?

If you traveled to the world of Lord of the Mysteries at a point where the story has already ended—you know Klein's entire journey, you're immune to corruption, and Klein has already ascended to godhood.

You might become one of his believers, but what would your mindset be?

Which would you take?

  1. You view him as your Lord, much like a pious follower of a traditional religion. Perhaps deep down you know he was only human to begin with, but you don't mind worshiping him as if he were a god.
  2. Because you understand his brilliant past and know of his bravery and justice, you regard him as a great hero and leader, but you do not deify him or believe in him like in ①. You are willing to follow him in the capacity of a loyal subordinate.
  3. Because you are an Earthling just like him, and you know everything about him, you have a full disenchantment toward him. You might think Klein is a person more remarkable than yourself, but you will not, from the bottom of your heart, regard him as something more important than yourself, you become a believer of The Fool purely for reasons of integrating into the world or for self-interest.
  4. Your feelings for him are less about admiration and more about love and a secret crush.
