I’ve had the privilege of directing movies and shorts for 10 years now.
The early years went like this: skits on flip video camera>High School video production class>cringe youtube videos>first try at a short film in 2015, fell apart>started filming my first completed short “Greenhorn” in summer 2016.
After completing that project, there was a newfound sense of freedom to create to my hearts content, and I’ve been making movies ever since.
I met some fellow filmmakers in the editing bay at college. Unlike a lot of stuff I'd seen, their stuff was actually great. They had an idea, we wrote something and ultimately based on “Greenhorn” they let me direct a well funded short movie in 2017 “Black Orchid”. It fell apart in the edit, sadly, and ultimately two versions of the film were released. Awkward and regrettable, if I could go back now I would listen to their input more. I was young and foolish, such is life.
Fast forward through many experimental short films in college; some played at film festivals and won some small honors. I love the wacky experimental stuff but it’s not for everyone.
I started work on my senior thesis in December 2019 as an experimental frame-by-frame film in the woods, high contrast, set to the album “schlagenheim” by Black Midi. From that idea grew a feature length experimental epic: “The Solution” completed in 2021 during the covid lockdown. Making this movie was a pivotal moment in my life.
Later, before leaving Binghamton, we quickly shot a follow up feature, “People are Nice Like That”. This is a very fun colorful vibey project, and a little rough around the edges, leaning into the whole experimental surrealism thing, and purposely subverting many expectations of the stoner comedy genre. Anyway, we made it just for fun, and we had fun!
Fast forward again, I move out to Portland Oregon for a while. The only movie project produced in this time was "Gleebus : Now" which was made for Joel Haver's Oscars challenge. It was more of a meme/skit than a movie, movie; got some views here and there but nothing huge.
In 2023, while on a trip to Whitby, England, I met a painter and we made a short documentary titled "An Artist Named Ady". He was super encouraging and inspiring as a fellow creative. The deal we had was: I trade this movie for one of his paintings. Though I haven't heard from him I do wish him the best and will continue to reach out.
In 2024, I got a new camera and russian medium format lenses and blasted into a new short film “Jackpot”, filmed in 1 day in the freezing cold and shot very run and gun compared to my previous projects. It was also written and edited to be very economical and plot forward. This was my first experience shooting RAW so the files were something like 613 GB for the 54 minutes of footage we shot total. Anyway, I liked how it turned out and wanted to explore something longer, more experimental, and above all, colorful.
In 2025, while on a trip to Jacksonville to visit a friend, we made the project I was dreaming of... “Meridian Waste”, which released a few days ago on May 8th, 2026.
Meridian Waste (29:41) | Synopsis: Germain works odd jobs for his boss and landlord, Bob Clark, in hopes of becoming an employee. His roommate Kelso leaves a mysterious vial in their fridge. Cross contamination. Strange side effects. Will he ever get back to work?
Side Note: Recently I've had chronic nerve pain in my back which has left me in bed for most of the day. It's been really nice to write this all out and I hope some of you will connect and share your stories as well!
Thanks for following along on my moviemaking journey and I’m happy to answer any questions. much peace and love
this album is near and dear to my heart. where does it sit in your ranking of the beach boys discography? for me its probably in the top 5 or top 10 for sure
this is my first before/after comparison post and i am very excited to share! These are screenshots taken directly from the timeline. The colors seem to shift between rendering and posting to youtube, if you want to see that version feel free to dm me (i don’t know if i can post a link here?)
for this project i used the blackmagic 6k full frame (Open Gate, RAW 5:1, Gen 5).
A is rec 709 gamma 2.4
B is the finished grade
for context the movie is has an absurd / psychedelic vibe to it and i wanted the colors to be punchy and surreal. for this scene i also tried not to change the character of the shot too much. let me know what you think!
I rank a new album in the BB discography every day! Help me figure out what to do once I get to the end! peace and love
