is it realistic to learn how to drive in a few days?

23F I’ve never had consistent driving lessons. My brother gave me maybe 2–3 lessons after work a couple years ago, and I’ve driven my dad to the grocery store a few times. Last November I had 2 lessons with a professional instructor, and afterward my family told me I was basically ready to get my license.

Then in February, my BIL offered to give me a one-week crash course after work to assess my driving and help clean things up. He ended up telling me I was not ready and that I would get myself killed or someone. He said the inconsistent lessons and people telling me I was ready gave me a false sense of confidence about my actual ability.

At the same time, he said he was proud of me for realizing I still needed practice, and he did say I improved a lot during the week he worked with me.

The problem is I haven’t driven since February because my family still thinks I don’t need more lessons and should “just go get my license.” My BIL is coming back to town for a week and offered to give me 1–2 more lessons. He said I should schedule my driving test immediately after while everything is fresh in my mind, otherwise I might fail.

Pt. 2 Former FBI Intern Transportation Situation Finally Improving

This is a follow-up to a DEA post I made a couple days ago. If you didn’t see it, I’m a former FBI intern and I was asking for advice because I didn’t have transportation to get to the potential job location since it’s over an hour and 15 minutes away from my mother’s house.

Things are starting to work out, though. My father decided he’s willing to take me to the interview, background check, and any other appointments I need for the hiring process. My brother-in-law is also going to give me a quick crash-course driving lesson so I can hopefully get my license soon and potentially move across the country for the job.

So hopefully everything works out.

Can someone pray for me?

I’ve been sad for a very long time and I just want someone to pray for me.

Edit: Thank you to everybody who said they would pray for me.

I have to Uber to work right now because I don’t have a car at the moment. I live with my mother, and whenever there’s stormy weather, she refuses to let me leave the house. She keeps saying my supervisor will understand if I don’t show up, but obviously that’s not how jobs work. The problem is if I decide to go to work anyway, she’s threatened to eventually put me out for disobeying her.

I completed an internship with the FBI, which is my only real work experience. During the internship, I didn’t have a license/transportation. I stayed on my brother’s couch over the summer and used trains and Ubers to get to work, often putting those expenses on my credit card.

I continued the internship during my final semester of college. My siblings helped at times by sending money for Ubers, but I still relied heavily on my credit card since there was no public transportation near my school.

After graduating, I moved back in with my mother because I didn’t have enough money or transportation. Her house is about an hour and 15 minutes from the office, so commuting daily by Uber isn’t realistic.

Now I’m applying for a DEA position, but my situation hasn’t changed. I still don’t have transportation. My siblings won’t give me money or rides anymore because they feel I’m an adult and need to figure it out, so I feel stuck in the same position.

I’m unsure whether I should go to the interview if I don’t currently have a way to commute. (I also don’t have the option to borrow my parents’ car.)

I applied for the DEA Division Investigator position. I previously interned at another DOJ agency, would my Top Secret clearance transfer since it’s within the same department?

I graduated with a B.S. in Neuroscience and Psychology with a Chemistry minor and a 3.98 GPA. I’m considering going back to school to finish a full Chemistry degree. It would only be about 15 additional credits.

Has anyone done something similar, and do you think it would actually be worth it for broadening job opportunities?

I’m trying to decide between spreading it out over 2 semesters (2–3 classes each) or just cramming everything into one semester. I’m not really concerned about maintaining a 4.0 this time, just focused on getting the degree completed efficiently for career flexibility.

I’ve been calling around my area and basically saying, “Hey, I’m a recent premed grad looking for a job,” and most places just tell me to fax or email my résumé instead.

Is this still worth doing, or am I wasting my time?
