Spring ephemerals

Hi all,

As spring arrives, I’m hoping to find some hikes that will allow me to see some spring ephemerals. Does anyone have any recommendations for hikes that are good for this?

Thanks!

New motor or invest in new vehicle?

Hi all,

I have a 2015 Subaru crosstrek and I was just told by my mechanic that there is evidence that oil is mixing with my coolant and eventually the coolant will mix with the oil. Eventually, the mechanic told me that I will need to replace my motor to fix this. He said that this is pretty common for Subarus once they get to 150,000 miles or so and I’m already at 175,000 miles on mine. He said that for parts and labor it would cost me 3,300 for the new motor.

I’m wondering if this is worth it for a car that has been somewhat of a money sink since I got it. I always thought I’d get to at least 200,000 miles with it though. My commute is pretty intense (involves a steep mountain climb) so I feel that I’m pretty at risk for engine overheating.

Is this something people have experienced? And do you think it’s a project worth investing in. I’ve put about 2,000 into it in the last month so that makes it more frustrating.

Thank you.
