RBR50 and RBS50 Voxel revelation

For many many years I ran an RBR40 (upstairs front) daisy chained using wireless backhaul to an RBS40 (downstairs back) and that through to an RBW30 to extend WiFi from our garage for the rare occasions I need WiFi outside. Recently I got a home battery that hated this system after many years of no problems.

I looked around and all the newer WiFi 7 routers like the Orbi 770 and Unifi Express 7 that seemed to be much better until wireless backhaul and walls got in the way. Darn those houses with walls. And they come at a cost.

I made a rash decision to buy a second hand RBR50 and RBS50 and it’s transformed everything.

I don’t need the third satellite anymore, the home battery is happy connecting and it’s rock solid.

My internet speeds from the satellite are really good. 450Mbps down and over 600Mbps up(!) from my 1Gbps service where max using Ethernet is around 980Mbps.

Super happy with this setup. Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it’s not good thanks to the Voxel firmware.

Rejecting Aferiy PS240 after 7 days of pain

Today I admitted defeat after updating the app and everything breaking again. Proceed with caution if considering purchasing.

I’m formally rejecting this product that is not fit for use and doesn’t work as advertised.

I’ve had countless issues and wasted hours of time trying to resolve. Majority of issues are down to poor software and hardware implementation/integration but ultimately I’ll focus on today and the fact the unit simply refuses to charge from the mains/grid, so I can’t use it to offset low and peak energy costs as intended. I’ve turned it off and on 4 times. Deleted everything and reset up once. And that’s today alone.

You can clearly see in the video below that:

  1. The unit is connected to my real-time energy meter and is showing the live feed on my house
  2. The unit is connected to the internet as I can view and save settings
  3. The unit clearly isn’t charging at the rate set…in fact a longer video shows that it starts discharging.
  4. I’m not using anything other than the dumb “charge now” option.

I cannot get the unit to consistently charge and discharge to any sort of schedule. I’ve tried since I received the device to get it to work and it’s only worked for 1 day out of 7. The rest have been issues, disconnects and things not working.

Nothing about this product is good apart from the case and probably the batteries. The UI is poor. The functionality is hard to understand. The device doesn’t do what it says or what you ask it to do.

With balcony solar options becoming viable soon I started looking at solar panels and found the standard size of panel along its shortest edge is annoyingly slightly too wide for many car boots, meaning that collection isn’t so viable and delivery of a couple of panels is really expensive.

It’s a shame that there aren’t more panels slightly smaller, like 1m, to allow for more easy transport.

My XC60 boot has a maximum width of 1114 and most panels come in at 1134.

Anyone found a smart way to transport? Or are there panels readily available that are slightly smaller but good output?

The much smaller panels look to be much more expensive.
