March 1970 Billboard feature on a typical NMC rack location. NMC was a big rack jobber/distributor back then. Love the little kid in the cart, the giant Hair display, and how packed the Vocalists section is.

Reprise Records Trade Ad: Kenny Rogers & The First Edition – Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town November (1969)

This full-page trade advertisement from Reprise Records, dated November 1969, playfully contrasts Kenny Rogers & The First Edition's mainstream country appeal with underground rock stereotypes. It promotes the album Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town (Reprise RS 6345), featuring the hit single "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" (written by Mel Tillis, recorded in one take in August 1969), which peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #39 on the Country chart. The ad highlights Rogers' "good voices, good songs, million-selling records" over "mystique" or "hip image," positioning the group as commercial hits akin to Reuben James amid hippie backlash against acts like Hendrix or Clapton.
