David Im apologizes for the "abgcmo" and "ABG/ABB maxxing" frenzy

David Im apologizes for the "abgcmo" and "ABG/ABB maxxing" frenzy

Context: more lore is unveiled around this "ABG/ABB maxxing event". Apparently, "abgcmo" (meaning ABG Chief Marketing Officer) was started by this guy and all these San Francisco personalities just latched on to it as a meme even including the original girls. "abgcmo" appears to be some AI Asian girl influencer generator.

Sorry I hate to keep posting about this ordeal, but I saw this "apology" and it literally reads like "sorryz I tried to sellout Asians and commodify lower income Asian immigrant culture for my own profit". Like it's literally a non-apology. They're only sorry they got backlash 🙄

The vapid need for some Asian Americans to profit off their own culture gives me the ick

Why are these SF influencers or whatever they are literally so out of touch

The ABG/ABB maxxing saga: Cringy SF "influencers" (Katie Chen, Julie Chen, & Grace Ling) get dragged for coopting the term "ABG" (and also not fitting the aesthetic) for their ABG/ABB maxxing event. After the backlash, they then pivot to saying it was all just to ragebait “Twitter snowflake NPCs”

For those OOTL: https://www.kron4.com/news/technology-ai/san-francisco-tech-workers-to-host-abg-abb-maxxing-event/

These tech girlies are so extremely unselfaware. At first I thought it was some weird humiliation ritual, but they keep digging lower and lower even days after the event happened.  I get they want to be associated with the hotness and desirability of “ABGs”, but if I had the internet clowning on me for being “chopped”, I would pack it up. Like what are y’all trying to do?? Then pivoting to “it was all just rarebait” isn’t gonna somehow save the situation as if they were all in on the joke from the start (they weren't).

Their reaction to being told they're coopting the term "ABG" as East Asians is also interesting. People with valid criticisms = snowflake SJWs 🙄 It's giving culture vulture. Though I guess that's par for the course for SF tech workers.

Also... the white guys just inserting themselves to the "ABG" event and hovering around like flies. Like why are you there?!?!!? It’s so nasty.

Rec centre drop-in leisure swimming feels so trying

So TIL that recreational centres in Toronto/GTA have few specific timeslots for public drop-in leisure swim... and most of the time, it's only for an hour.

Coming from Vancouver, this is crazy!! I'm used to just being able to spontaneously go to the pool whenever I want... and then staying for as long as I want. Now I'm learning I have to plan it all in advance. Plus the amenities seem lacking compared to Vancouver. Do people in Toronto not go out and just chill? Everything has to be planned?

Idk it just feels like a let down when I expected Toronto to be the bigger and better city, but then I'm finding out all these small things... 😔

If you've got tips on visiting rec centres/pools, please let me know

Edit: Forgot to mention how frustrating it is to have to visit all these different websites for each centre to find their specific schedule to know if they have drop in asdffghf

Idk if it's just me, but I noticed that compared to other places I've lived in, Toronto's job postings often require a driver's license even when it's not necessary for the job (e.g. call centre, office admin, etc).

I've also been told that if a business finds out you're a commuter, you're more likely to get rejected. Do you find this to be true?
