Most CRO tools tell you WHERE customers drop off. They don't tell you WHY. That's the whole problem.

Frictionless is a behavioral audit tool for Shopify that diagnoses the psychological reason visitors don't convert. Built on actual behavioral economics research (Cialdini's principles of influence, Kahneman's loss aversion work, Baymard's checkout research, Stanford's web credibility studies).

Drop your store URL → 2-minute scan → you get a complete diagnosis across 7 psychological categories:

Trust Deficit — Are credibility signals visible at the price moment? Visitors decide trust in 50ms. If your trust badges are in the footer, they're in the wrong place.

Friction Anxiety — Is your checkout triggering loss aversion? Forced account creation alone causes 24% of cart abandonment globally (Baymard).

Decision Paralysis — Too many competing CTAs above the fold? Iyengar's Paradox of Choice predicts visitors will freeze instead of clicking.

Value Ambiguity — Does your hero describe the product or the customer outcome? When the central argument is weak, visitors fall back on price comparison (Elaboration Likelihood Model).

Urgency Absence — Without honest urgency, "I'll come back later" wins by default. 60% of those visitors never return.

Mobile Friction — 60%+ of ecom traffic is mobile. CTAs below the fold or non-touch-friendly buttons kill conversion silently.

Price Resistance — Without a reference price, your price feels arbitrary. Visitors mentally compare you to nothing — and assume you're too expensive.

What you walk away with:

✓ Frictionless Score (0-100) for your store ✓ All 7 friction points ranked by severity ✓ Specific psychological mechanism behind each one ✓ Concrete fix for each — no developer required for most ✓ Estimated CR uplift range per fix

Pricing: First insight free, full report €29 one-time, no subscription. Optional €49/month tier for ongoing weekly re-scans + tracking.

Your analytics show what. Frictionless tells you WHY.

Built specifically for Shopify owners who know their CR is too low but don't know exactly which psychological barrier is killing it. Generic "improve your funnel" advice doesn't work because every store has a different dominant friction. The fix for trust deficit is the literal opposite of the fix for decision paralysis. Misdiagnose and you waste a sprint.

What Frictionless does:

Scans your store in 2 minutes against 7 psychological friction categories — Trust Deficit, Friction Anxiety, Decision Paralysis, Value Ambiguity, Urgency Absence, Mobile Friction, Price Resistance. Each one is grounded in actual behavioral research (Cialdini, Kahneman, Baymard, Stanford Web Credibility Lab — not blog-post heuristics).

For each category you get:

→ The exact issue happening on YOUR store → The psychological mechanism explaining why it kills conversion → A concrete fix you can implement the same day → Estimated CR uplift range

You also get a Decision Autopsy that pinpoints the exact moment in the customer journey where the no-buy decision happens. Most owners think they have a checkout problem when they actually have a trust problem 4 seconds earlier on the product page. The Autopsy makes that visible.

What's in the full report:

✓ Frictionless Score 0-100 ✓ All 7 friction points ranked by severity (critical/high/medium/low) ✓ Specific fix per point ✓ Decision Autopsy mapping the breakdown moment ✓ Customer journey map showing friction by phase

Pricing:

→ Free scan with one insight (no signup, no email gate) → €29 one-time for the full 7-insight report (lifetime access) → €49/month for ongoing weekly re-scans and tracking on Shopify

No subscription unless you want one. No upsell ladder. €29 one-time gets you everything.

What it is

Frictionless scans any Shopify store and identifies the psychological reasons visitors don't buy. Trust signal placement, decision architecture above the fold, checkout friction patterns, value proposition clarity. Each issue is traced back to a specific behavioral economics principle (Kahneman, Cialdini, Baymard Institute).

Who it's for

Ecom store owners who already know their conversion rate is bad but can't tell which fix to prioritize first. DTC brands, dropshippers, niche stores. Especially people who got tired of CRO tools that show what broke without explaining why visitors hesitated.

Why anyone should care

Most CRO tools show you analytics. Bounce rate, cart abandonment, click heatmaps. They tell you what happened. They never tell you why. The why is mostly predictable from page level signals: trust deficit, decision paralysis, mobile friction, urgency absence. Once you see the behavioral pattern behind the metric, the right fix becomes obvious.

How it stands out

Three things make it different from existing tools.

First, full methodology audit trail. Every point in the report links back to the exact signal detected on the page plus the behavioral principle behind it. Glass box, not black box. You can see exactly why a score dropped.

Second, a Behavioral Action Sequencer. Instead of dumping a list of issues on you, it computes the optimal fix order based on severity, effort, and psychological dependencies (trust before urgency, etc). You click steps to mark them done and watch the projected score update in real time.

Third, multi page scan covering homepage, product page, cart, and collection. Most tools only scan one URL. The friction is rarely on the page you think.

Where I'm stuck

Distribution to non technical SMB buyers. Posted on HN and Product Hunt early which brought engineer traffic, not store owner traffic. If anyone here has launched a B2B tool into non technical SMB owners, what was the first acquisition channel that actually put paying customers on the board for you? Cold DM, paid ads to a free tool, agency partnerships, something else entirely?

Moin Leute, kurze Vorstellung weil ich euer Hirn anzapfen will.

Was waere euer Ansatz?

Falls jemand neugierig ist auf das Tool - kommentier doch bitte oder schreib mir eine DM ich würde dir den Link zukommen lassen

Danke schonmal, freue mich ueber jede ehrliche Antwort, auch wenn sie unbequem ist.

UX background here is informal — my actual training is in behavioral psychology. But over the last few months I've gotten obsessed with how UX problems on e-commerce sites map back to specific cognitive biases, not just usability heuristics.

The pattern I keep seeing: most CRO advice is tactical ('move the buy button', 'shorter form'). But behind every tactic is a behavioral principle that explains why it works. And once you see the principle, you spot the same pattern in different visual forms across hundreds of stores.

Example. 'No trust signals near the price' is a UX problem. But the behavioral root is loss aversion firing faster than reward seeking — visitors decide if your store feels safe in under 500ms (Stanford trust research). The visual fix (badge below ATC) is downstream of the cognitive mechanism.

I mapped 7 categories. Trust Deficit. Friction Anxiety (effort heuristic in checkout). Decision Paralysis (paradox of choice). Value Ambiguity (ELM theory — weak central argument means visitors fall back on peripheral cues like price). Urgency Absence (temporal discounting). Mobile Friction (effort heuristic on small screens). Price Resistance (reference price theory).

What I find useful as a UX lens: when you frame a friction point this way, the fix is no longer 'best practice we should do' but 'this specific cognitive load is making visitors freeze, here's how to reduce it'. Stakeholders push back less.

Question for actual UX researchers and designers here: is this mapping useful from your end, or am I overstating the BE angle? Where does it fall apart in your experience?

Working on a behavioral audit framework for e-commerce sites. Bachelor's in Behavioral Psychology, currently in a gap year before my Master's, considering this as a foundation for a future research project.

The framework operationalizes 7 friction categories tied to specific BE constructs:

Trust Deficit — grounded in loss aversion (Kahneman) and trust formation research (Stanford Web Credibility studies, Fogg).

Friction Anxiety — effort heuristic plus loss aversion in checkout contexts. Each form field reduction has been linked to ~7% completion rate improvements (Baymard).

Decision Paralysis — paradox of choice (Schwartz), choice overload effects on action versus deferral.

Value Ambiguity — ELM theory (Petty & Cacioppo), peripheral versus central route persuasion when value proposition is unclear.

Urgency Absence — temporal discounting (Frederick et al.), why 'I'll come back later' visitors usually don't.

Mobile Friction — effort heuristic on small screens, where every additional tap disproportionately reduces completion.

Price Resistance — reference price theory (Thaler), mental accounting effects on perceived value.

I've audited 78 DACH-region Shopify stores using this framework and the patterns are reasonably consistent, though n is still small. The audit produces a Decision Autopsy that pinpoints which BE principle fails at which funnel stage.

Genuine question: is anyone aware of existing operationalized BE frameworks for e-commerce specifically? Most of what I find is either pure UX research (Baymard) or pure BE theory without funnel application. The closest I've seen is some Pelsmacker work but it's older. Pointers to anything I might be reinventing would be appreciated.

My methodology document is at frictionlessai.net for those interested.
