Kansas State Wildcats cross-stitch!

My aunt saw me working on a couple projects last time I visited her and she requested one of her own. Of course I got right to it! I’m pretty happy with how this turned out, it’s the first project that I’ve kept in the hook to hang so I’m excited to see how she likes it! I do still need to put some gray check around the edges of the raw seam, but I wanted to show off first!

Shiny violet!

I was foraging for common violets in my back yard with my cat and I came across this beauty! I managed to snap a couple pictures before Sadie(my kitty) moved on to the next one. Typically they’re a dark purple color, sometimes with white veins but I’ve never seen a fully white one! It was so cool!

A true skittle!

I keep seeing people doing all types of fun springy skittles, and it got me thinking about doing ‘real’ skittle nails. I looked them up and chose some colors that were close, and then I added a blue and a light purple so it’d look nice and cohesive. I did a scattered holo top coat over the colors, then I added the little ‘s’ shapes with a white creme and topped again. What do yall think?

Week 8 update!

This week I filed down the rest of my nails to more or less match the length of this one. My birthday is coming up in a month and my hope was to have it back by then, so I think I’ll achieve my goal!

Birthday list

My birthday is coming up in a month or so and I keep getting people asking for a birthday list. My partner and my mom are the main offenders even though they know I’m anti consumption. I found a couple things to add, like a phone charger (mine only works at an angle) some pants and shoes (I need new work pants and shoes), and some other small things like that, and I sent it to her yesterday. Today she got back to me and asked me to find more things I wanted.

I don’t feel super comfortable just straight up telling her I don’t want anything else, so I tried to explain that I don’t need new things right now. She told me to find some things I wanted, but I don’t really want anything else either. I found some nail hardener, and some fabric for crafts that I’ve been thinking about buying for a while and added that to the list but she’s still asking for more stuff on the list and I don’t wanna have her buying things for me that I won’t use.

It’s a similar dilemma with my partner, I convinced him to take me out for my birthday instead of getting me a gift, but now he’s trying to make it a whole experience. It’s very sweet of him, but the plans mostly include shopping and going out to eat. I wanna go swimming or go on a walk man! But, even when I’ve told him that, he’s hesitant. It’s like he thinks I won’t have fun or something. I was thinking maybe instead we could find a middle ground and go to the zoo, but now he’s still asking what I want to get there! He keeps hinting about the gift shop and how he’s gonna get me something nice. Again, I really do appreciate the thought, but I don’t need OR want a stuffed elephant or what have you.

I guess I’m just wondering how I can explain to them that I’m more comfortable receiving nothing? Or that the ideal for me, is an experience and not a bunch of gifts? Cause I’ve tried explaining it and they just keep egging on about it. I don’t wanna be rude, but it’s starting to bother me that they won’t just listen when I tell them I don’t want anything new.

ETA: thank you all for your amazing responses and ideas. I’ve decided to ask my mother for some practical things, as well as a nail polish set I’ve been looking at for quite a while. A lot of the items are things like cosmetics and food, and initially she pushed back a bit but once I explained a bit more in depth about my philosophy, she understood. I have been slowly working with my family to get them to consume less, and I think my work is finally paying off!

As for my partner, he and I are going to go to the zoo like I mentioned; and instead of spending money at the gift shop, I’m gonna do some research so we can donate that money to a local conservation project and make sure we can do some good with it.

I truly appreciate all of your responses, I was a bit worried about this because birthdays are typically just an excuse to buy things, so I’m glad I have so many good ideas for my next birthdays as well!
