Can you guys help me buy my first amp in a very long time?
I've recently gotten back into playing electric guitar after a long hiatus and having all my gigging gear stolen in 2010. I stopped playing for the most part after that until around 2020 I bought an acoustic off of a co worker and have played every day since. I am no stranger to playing guitar but I know next to absolutely nothing about amps and pedals. Back in the day I played post hardcore, screamo, experimental rock, ect. i had a Boss gt8 multi effect pedal so i could try to have some of everything but it never sounded great at any one thing. I had a big but shitty sounding Crate amp and later a smaller but better sounding marshal combo amp leant to me by my other guitarist. What do you guys think would be a good amp purchase for a somewhat serious bedroom musician with a budget of $100-$600 at the absolute max. I would like something that has good sound when its quiet as well since i am still in a shared wall situation for now. Any reccomendations of a combo pedal or at least a reasonably priced overdrive pedal for someone who likes hardcore/shoegaze tone? Should i just buy software and a plug in thing for my computer instead? Is the future now?
