It's my friends birthday and he plays the guitar. I want to buy something for him that will upgrade his look.
Please help guys
it looks like the brigde is getting out. The screw on the left is getting pulled but the right one looks fine. Should I just loose the string and screw the left one tight? I'm using medium tension strings
I’ve had an Ultimate Guitar account since 2018 and honestly never thought much about it because it’s just always worked.
Recently I started noticing I’m getting hammered with ads:
At first I thought maybe I was misremembering my subscription, but I dug through my old emails and found:
Then I checked my account page and it explicitly says:
“UG PRO+ — Lifetime”
It ALSO specifically mentions:
“2+ million ad-free tabs & chords”
…but while logged in I’m still seeing full display ads and huge embedded homepage ads.
I attached screenshots because honestly I feel like I’m going insane.
Did other older users get grandfathered lifetime accounts too? And are you guys also getting ads now?
I’m genuinely not trying to ragebait here — I’m mostly just confused how a lifetime “ad-free” account ended up looking like this.
Featuring Lady the void! Little out of order but this has been a fun learn.
Guitar -> DOD comp - mini recto 25w -> DC-2W -> chase bliss dark world. Time effects are in the loop, this amp has stupid good cleans.
I've got an agile multi scale, 27"-30" with fishman fluences, and I cannot seem to get it to sound good. I have a feeling it's because the soldering was incorrect, but every guitar place I take it to says it's fine. The tone knob does just about NOTHING, with very little difference on the push/pull.
Just would like to know if you think I'm crazy or if I should just ask them to resolder everything
I decided buy a guitar on Saturday, first in 26 years! I got a dirt cheap Fender Starcaster and wow I forgot how important callouses are. After 4 days playing it my fingers hurt so much that I finally ordered a Yamaha C40II classical for ease of playing. I got home to a huge box and opened it to see a ton of cardboard. I opened the box and then opened the center box and found the guitar. I thought the packaging was a bit excessive but I just tuned it up and started playing. What a dream it feels like compared to acoustic! Then I figured I would check the packing materials and found TWO more guitars. I phoned a friend to show off the sound and tell about the extras. Then I pulled out the empty center box and found that it was wedge shaped, so I checked under it and found THREE more guitars! Six total for the price of one, haha. Just thought I would share this story before I contact Amazon and let them know about their error.
I've been wanting to get one but i dont live alone so i would like to know how loud they are (unplugged)
I want to upgrade the machine heads on my strat, but I was wondering which ones to get. Are the Fender ones any good, or am I better off going with a different brand? I'm curious to learn from others' experiences before buying anything. I'm more interested in the highest quality option vs budget-friendly. Cheers!
With all the Fender drama, im seeing a lot of youtubers saying that the ironic part is that Fender doesn't even make the best "S style" guitars nowdays.
Wich brands are you go to, besides Fender and Squier?
Is Fender a good brand for guitars? Any suggestions? Thank you
Thinking of changing the bridge pickup in my epiphone sg g400, it's tuned to drop C and with my band I mostly play stoner/alternative-like metal, was thinking of a medium/medium high pickup but I can't decide
They offered me a set of vintage dimarzio super distorsions but I don't know
I’m four months in and play every day, usually in bursts. I usually drill a song a few times > go do something else > come back and up the speed and see how I do and go from there. And I’ve also started in person lessons.
But at the same time, I’m pretty reclusive these days. I’ll go out to events like concerts, go to church, volunteer when I can, etc. So I’m not a shut-in. But I’m also like the protagonist in Pink Floyd’s The Wall: repeated bad shit that’s happened to me has made me retreat further into the shell my parents tried to get me to break out of when I was a kid. And I can’t afford to check myself in to a facility since I’ll lose my job. That, and I don’t want to lose my ability to play my guitar.
It’s why I wonder, since I don’t have the bravery to change and break out of my wall these days, if I will still get objectively better at guitar since I won’t have the opportunity to jam in person with others, join a band or anything like that. Or am I truly holding myself back here?
So I just wanted to share my happiness. I recently got this brand new Takamine GN30 for about $220 because the store had lost the contract with the brand and they were selling all of their takamines for a ridiculous price. It plays amazing and I think this might very well be the best deal I have ever gotten for a brand new guitar, i’m having so much fun with it (second pic is me playing it right after buying it on the subway while on my way home lol)
I don't shop at big guitar stores so I don't get to see high end guitars in person very often, but a pretty big store near me was closing down and I had the chance to play a few mid to high-end Gibson and Fender models the other day. $3000~4000 USD and $2000~$3000 respectively.
There was some issues with the finishes on a few of the Gibsons, and the some of the Fenders were not setup very well. Fair enough I suppose.
They played well of course I'm not going to deny that, but for $3000 I expect alot more. The Gibson actually felt pretty similiar to my $200 LTD that I practice modding on, but maybe that was just the neck shape.
The pickups sounded good on both, but in this day and age its hard to find ones that don't, and people usually replace them with something else.
I don't really see the appeal *in the modern day* besides the logo on the headstock and the knowledge that greatest players in history used them. I know they were amazing back in the day because your only other option for most players was cheap bargain bin guitars like first-act, and/or Japanese (which was seen similiar to how Chinese-made is today) like Ibanez.
With the decline of quality in both companies and rising costs, I'm seeing less people buy Fenders and Gibsons, especially the younger generation. They aren't bad guitars by any means, but ignoring any finish flaws and setup problems assuming I just got unlucky and played lemons, that much for CNC guitars? Made of cheap~mid range woods?
I could ask a great luthier to make anything I wanted by hand to my exact specifications for less than $4000 man.
TL;DR I played a Fender and a Gibson and they were decent guitars with high price tags.

Hey guys, first post here but me and my (room)mate have started playing together and want to find more songs to eventually perform (at some point lol)
I’ve been playing 10+ years and he’s about 2 years in, we’ve got good amps, 2 acoustics and 2 electrics.
Currently we play supersonic, live forever and rock and roll star (oasis) + rooster (Alice in chains) + tomorrow (Silverchair)
I’m hoping to find more songs to learn with that ^ sort of vibe, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
