People who moved to LA from states with more seasonal variation, do you miss the cold?

I wish to move to LA, or somewhere in SoCal in the future. I have been tons of times and love the weather, but am worried it may get old after a while. For reference I am from Central Texas. It doesn’t freeze here super often, but our winters are usually in the 40s-50s

Christmas not being cold would be an interesting experience. What’s it like not getting to experience cold very often?

Where to report shit like this?

They posted this video on Instagram. Dude is a tourist from Germany staying in LA. This shit is unacceptable

EDIT: CHP & LASD tip line here for anyone wanting to put a stop to this BS. I suggest writing a report, they won’t do anything unless everybody does.

Edit 2: I reached out to the rental company and they informed me he is no longer allowed to rent from them. They said they’ve been in business for 10 years and this is the first time they’ve had something like this happen.

How restrictive are CA gun laws, really? Is it as bad as people say? Exaggerated?

Hey guys, I am planning to move from Texas to California within the next 3-5 years. I know I’m likely going to lose a lot of the rights I have here in Texas, but if it’s not too bad it’s a price I’m willing to pay.

I own two rifles, one bolt action for hunting and one on an AR platform. I know already I’m likely going to have to get rid of the AR before making the move. I also own a 12 gauge shotgun I use for hunting and a M&P Shield I carry for self defense.

Will these be things I’ll be allowed to own? The laws on the state of California’s website seem intentionally vague and simultaneously over complex on what they define as an assault weapon. Is anybody able to give more info on this? Thanks!

Considering a move to LA. Should we visit SD first?

Hey guys. I am a fairly overly ambitious 20 year old from Texas hoping to move to California within the next 5 years. I’ve been saving aggressively for this since around 2024.

My girlfriend and I have been to the LA area several times and absolutely love it. The nature is beautiful, the weather is unmatched and the people have been mostly pleasant in our experience.

We are not people who are super into the nightlife scene, but also don’t want an overly slow paced life. I’m hoping to get into surfing later, and I enjoy all things outdoors (hunting, fishing, hiking) and my girlfriend is honestly happy with anything other than Texas. She enjoys art, aquariums, and museums a lot.

I work as a first responder currently. I would likely seek a career in law enforcement as it pays the best compared to EMS and fire (which would be preferred if they paid more). My girlfriend intends to work in healthcare ($70k avg salary for LA) and is finishing up school soon. For these fields, it seems metro LA is more affordable than SD or OC from my research, but I don’t have the firsthand experience so could be wrong.

Would it be wise to make the decision to move without visiting San Diego? It seems from our tastes LA would be a better fit, but I obviously may be biased here. Hope anybody can help out, thanks!

Edit note: We will obviously have jobs lined up before making any final decisions

April 29, 1992 - Los Angeles, California. Victim Fidel Lopez, a Guatemalan immigrant is beaten and severely injured by rioters, saved by a black pastor named Bennie Newton [1600 x 900]

MORE INFO: Fidel Lopez was an immigrant from Guatemala returning home from work around the time the riots kicked off and was stopped by rioters and dragged out of his vehicle and beaten. The assailants also stole $2,800 in cash that Lopez intended to use to buy construction materials and set his truck on fire.

The assailants smashed a car stereo over his head, fracturing his skull and requiring over 250 stitches to repair, nearly severed his ear, spray painted his genitals, and doused him with gasoline with intent to set him on fire. He was saved by a black pastor named Bennie Newton who jumped on top of him, shielding him with his Bible in hand and shouting “No more! This is enough. Kill him, and you have to kill me too!”

The assailants backed off, and Newton, along with others loaded Lopez into his vehicle and drove him to the hospital, where he recovered. After the riots, Newton and Lopez remained close, with Newton donating money to help Lopez with medical bills and lost income. Sadly, Reverend Bennie Newton died of leukemia in 1993, just over a year after the riots.

Not been super huge into reading but want to get into it. I love the post-apocalyptic genre especially with a focus on a second American civil war. Anybody have any good suggestions? Preferably books from more well known authors if possible. Thanks!

I say this as someone who has been everywhere and whose personal favorite state is California.

I absolutely love California. I’ve visited at least 5 times in the last 10 years and would live there in a heartbeat if I could. I fucking despise the people. Never have I had a good experience overall every time I have been there. Southern California specifically is FAR worse but I’ve observed this phenomenon as far north as Redding.

Everybody is fake. Fake tits, fake teeth, fake hair, fake personalities. Everybody constantly has something to complain about and can never be happy for 5 seconds. But God forbid you mention that their state is expensive. Suddenly they are the proudest Californian you have ever seen, and you’re just mad you can’t live there because you’re broke and they’re rich. Just look at how they react when someone simply says they don’t want to live there. And it’s not even like these people only exist online. They are EVERYWHERE and act the same way in person.

It is so exhausting. I don’t know how an entire population can be so blissfully unaware of their arrogance and impoliteness. They legitimately don’t realize that they behave this way. It’s obviously the result of the film & music industry making a place for itself there, but Jesus I wish they weren’t so fucking rude. Anyway thanks for reading my rant.
