Coming from a business major who always wanted to study dentistry but remembered the horrors of chemistry and physics back in the last years of high school: Was STEM also so hard for you as it was for me and most of my peers in school?
Up until 11th grade I had straight A‘s in all Stem subjects, so it wasn‘t like I didn’t have ANY knowledge or never studied for things like biology, chemistry physics etc. I am very studious. But then in 12th grade, I genuinely couldn’t pass chemistry exams despite dedicating most of my time to this subject and having a private tutor. It was so horrible and demoralizing. Around 70% of students switched to subjects like biology where they hoped it would be more about memorizing things instead of applying knowledge in new ways. I was one of the few students who stayed in that chemistry class up until the very end and I still remember the absolute dread and fear every time I had to go there. We had like 3 people who were really good at chemistry and it was because they were super talented and also excelled at the other stem subjects. But the rest was failing terribly.
For any other subject, I would study 3 days prior to the exam and get an A. But for chemistry, I had to start 2 weeks in advance just to barely get that 50% mark 😭😭
I‘m so sad that I am so untalented in chemistry, because I find dentistry to be really interesting and something I could see myself doing for a living. But I know I would give up on the way there just because of Stem 🙁🙁.
