Engine won’t fully stop when I let off the accelerator- it continues to chug at a very low RPM, drawing gas, flooding the carburetor and kind of spewing it out of the carb as well. I thought I saw some coming out of the exhaust, too.

Something caused the starter generator to ground out, I thought it had to do with a faulty ignition switch that had been broken for a long time. When I first started doing work, I disconnected the negative from the battery. When reconnecting the negative, it’s sparked hard, despite there being nothing that should be drawing power. Ultimately, I traced a ground out to the starter generator.

I also noticed that the cable next to the ignition switch relay wasn’t retracting, leaving too much slack. Another place I reasonably thought could cause the engine to surge the way that it was.

I replaced ignition switch, a frayed ground cable, the starter generator (which sure enough was fried), the carburetor, and the switch relay. I got the slack out of that cable attached to the gas pedal. Once all was said and done, I reconnected the battery, and got good readings. With the cart in neutral, I gave it a go, and this fucking thing kept chugging.

Does anybody know what gives?
