How can I stop listening kendrick and move on to other artists?? Is this the problem with conscious rap?
I don't know whether it's me only or it usually happens with everyone. The thing is I have been listening to kendrick from the past 10+ yrs to this day and never found any artist like him. The discography, album dissections, interviews n blah blah... I consume everything when it's about kendrick. The problem is whenever I listen or try to explore other artists I don't feel like listening. It doesn't give a kick, lyrics don't hit hard, instrumentals don't hit that way....and my brain somehow tells me this artist is faking or forcing a vibe in his songs. I face this issue alot and it kinda fucks me up. This thing came to my mind when I was listening to J cole's fall off and Asap's DBD. I like em both and explored enough but never explored them like I do with kendrick and artists like playboy carti, Don toliver I just listen for the sake of it ..songs which matches the vibe i just repeat them. That's it ... I don't explore or dig deep into their persona. You get my point what am saying.. kenny set the benchmark too high I guess or i just don't know how to do a proper listening session..pls help me out with this issue.
The question I really wanna ask is how to approach an album with a clear mind. The benchmark is too high and can't be touched even ik. But I think I am stuck on this conscious shit and couldn't move further. Always finding a meaning behind a bar which affects my focus. Does anyone else feel the same issue or is it just me??
Open for all the discussion and constructive criticism.. just a guy in his late 20's asking for solutions and discussions.
BONUS- Any song, artists recco are welcome.
