I’m a recent graduate working as a Data Engineer at a firm. I took this job because the JD focused on data warehousing and building pipelines, which are the areas I’m genuinely passionate about.

Lately though, my manager has been extremely busy and hasn’t had much time to discuss my technical work or projects. During a recent team meeting, I was publicly asked to take over manual content uploads and basic marketing-related tasks. A non-technical staff member was even assigned to train me on the process.

I’m still in my probation/training period, so I’m honestly afraid of pushing back and being seen as “not a team player” or creating friction with management. At the same time, I’m worried about role creep. I don’t want my technical skills to stagnate while I slowly become more of an admin resource than an engineer.

I can definitely see the value of combining data and digital marketing, and I’d actually be interested if there were analytics, automation, or engineering aspects involved. But right now, it feels heavily manual.

Has anyone else in the Sri Lankan tech scene experienced something similar early in their career? How did you steer things back toward your technical JD

Hey everyone! I recently moved to Colombo and I’m trying to find things to do on my own and hopefully meet new people along the way.

I came across a book club at Neko & Kopi, but I was honestly too shy to approach them 😅 Also not sure I can fully commit to regular reading, but I’d still love to try something similar just to get out there.

I’ve also seen some tabletop game meetups happening, but unfortunately they tend to fall on days I’m out of town.

Are there any other clubs, groups, or activities you’d recommend? Open to pretty much anything casual and beginner-friendly!

Hey! I’m looking for some vintage-style / aesthetic places around Kandy for a college photoshoot (we’re about 4–5 people).

I’m going for a slightly old-school vibe (colonial buildings, antique interiors, moody cafes, or even nature spots that feel a bit timeless). Indoor or outdoor both are fine.

It would be great if the place isn’t too crowded so we can shoot comfortably.

Any hidden gems or underrated spots would be super helpful 🙏

I’m early in my career and was asked to build a dashboard where my manager can log in and see all performance data in one place, with access control (users only see the brands they handle).

Constraints:

* Must be free

* Must be secure

* Non-technical users

What I built:

* Streamlit app (I mainly use Python)

* Google Sheets as the “warehouse”

* GitHub Actions for daily API pulls (Asana, GA4, MailerLite, Meta)

* Basic role-based access in the UI

Now I’m unsure:

* Is Google Sheets okay for this or risky long-term?

* is Streamlit scalable for multiple users?

* What’s the right way to handle access control?

* If they want a mobile app later, does this need a rebuild?

I have attached a picture of the workflow I am following.

Would love quick feedback, am I on the right path or setting myself up for problems later?
