Travelling with different names on passports

Hi - i know this is a somewhat common question but hoping for some help.

I have citizenship in Australia and Germany, Australian resident travelling to Germany in October. My legal Australian name is equivalent to "John Williams-Schmidt" (not a real name). Due to issues with german name law, my legal name in Germany is "John Schmidt".

While I have applied for a declaration (name change), it is unlikely to be done by the time I am travelling. The consulate has advised that it will provide a temporary German passport bearing "John Schmidt" if necessary.

I will then have two passports with different names. Is my understanding correct that I must:

  1. book flights to Germany under my Australian name & passport
  2. clear Australian immigration exit control on my Australian passport
  3. enter Germany by clearing German immigration entrance control on my German passport
  4. book flights leaving Germany on my German name
  5. Clear German immigration exit control on my German passport
  6. re-enter Australian through immigration etnrance control on my Australian passport.

Is it worth going to a travel agency to sort this?

Thanks in advance

AirChina booking advice

Hey first flight internationally here and I just want to make sure I'm not being silly. I've found flights from Melbourne to Frankfurt in October for $700-750 AUD one way with Airchina- incredibly cheap.

Does this low price indicate that they are not filling flights, and may cancel them closer to the date leaving me to book at a higher cost at another airport? is there anything I should be aware of in my 'risk equation' when comparing these flights to other, more expensive flights?

I am australian, have a german and australian passport and will be stoping in PEK - which I am aware is not the greatest layover spot but im not stressed about that
