So my dad’s friend basically gave away his office PC, and I ended up scoring it for free. It’s actually a pretty solid start, it has an i5-10400f, 16GB of DDR4 RAM (2666MHz), an ASUS Prime H510M-K board, a generic psu that you get from these pcs and a 1TB Kingston NV2 NVMe. I also have another psu hanging around tho I’m a bit sketchy about the PSU, It’s a 500W unit I got from a local computer shop back during the pandemic, so it’s probably around 8 years old now. I’ll definitely be buying a new one soon.
Getting all of that for free was huge. I also have an old GTX 1050 that was just sitting around collecting dust, so I gave it a quick clean without opening it up. Since the core parts were free, the only thing I really have to spend on is a 144Hz 1080p monitor, which is great.

I’m just wondering what GPU I should eventually upgrade to with this setup. I don't really plan on changing the CPU yet. Correct me if I’m wrong, but since my CPU/board only supports PCIe 3.0, that shouldn't really tank my performance too much if I get something like a 30-series card, right? I'd prefer a used GPU or something from a warehouse sale where I can avoid those crazy store markups also im fine with any brands as either way the experience will be so much better than now
