I’ve often heard that sugar is the main cause of cavities, but I’m wondering if that’s a bit of an oversimplification. I understand that bacteria in the mouth feed on sugar and produce acids that damage tooth enamel, but are there other equally important factors involved, like oral hygiene, frequency of eating, saliva production, or genetics?
