Should old people take tests again?
I’m at the shops with my mum yesterday and witness the most "how are you still driving" moment ever.
This old lady in a vintage car (literally looked like the 🚗 emoji) is reversing and just straight up slams into a brand new, expensive-looking Mercedes SUV. She hit it right above the wheel well from the side. Everyone nearby heard this loud "boink" sound it was clear as day. Somehow, by some miracle of physics, it didn't even leave a mark. It was like the car just bounced back.
But the scary part ? The lady was completely oblivious. She was about to keep reversing deeper into the Merc until I had to jump in and play traffic warden. I literally had to tell her "turn the wheel this way, now that way" just to get her out of the spot. Once she was clear, she just drove off like nothing happened.
Seriously, we need to talk about making old people retake their driving tests. It’s not even about being mean, it’s just safety. If you can’t hear a literal collision or figure out how to turn your wheel to get out of a car park, you shouldn’t be operating a heavy metal box in public
All that to say I think it might be time to make old people do their tests again and see if they are fit to drive.
