My coworkers ex destroyed him. He almost ended it.
I work with a guy (27), a good looking tall blond guy who has been through hell because of his ex (27) Asian girl, and I can’t stop thinking about it. He’s one of those hopeless romantic, “lover boy” types. He knew this girl from high school—they liked each other back then but were too shy to date. Fast forward about 10 years, he hits her up on Instagram, and they finally reconnect.
They start dating and go on trips together. He poured his heart (and a lot of money) into her, loved and cherished her. She works in the medical field and doesn’t have many female friends—most of her friends are guys she met through Steam.
He lives about three hours away from her in Tampa but drove to see her almost every weekend, staying until Monday morning. One weekend he had a business trip and couldn’t make it. Coincidentally, that was the weekend some of her online guy friends came to visit—one from Canada and one from Kansas. She let one of them, a guy named Chon (38) Asian bald, stay over at her apartment. She even sent my coworker snaps of her and Chon on an air mattress in the living room watching movies. He told me it made him uneasy—why couldn’t this dude just get a hotel?
That wasn’t the only red flag. They planned an Airbnb trip for his birthday in St. Augustine. He’d been feeling a little sick in the weeks leading up to it, and she somehow twisted that into thinking he was cheating on her (apparently some of her friends were feeding her those ideas). They talked it out and he thought things were fine. Then, right before his birthday trip, she ghosted him completely.
On his actual birthday, he called her over and over. He even called her parents because he was genuinely worried something bad happened. Her parents adore him and had no idea what was going on. Later, one of her Steam friends actually reached out to my coworker and sent him a recorded conversation of her and Chon. She was being flirty with Chon and talking badly about my coworker behind his back.
That was all the confirmation he needed—she had been cheating. She didn’t show up for his birthday, ghosted him, and betrayed him. When he finally confronted her, she admitted to cheating with Chon.
He went to her place, picked up his stuff, and left her the last little gift he had bought for her on the road (he said he used to bring her something back every time he traveled). They met one final time to exchange their last belongings, and he could barely even talk to her.
He spiraled into alcoholism after all this. Her parents still reach out to him sometimes because they loved him like a son, but honestly, it’s heartbreaking to see what this whole thing did to him.
It’s crazy how someone you love can destroy you like that. Watching him go through it has been one of the saddest things I’ve ever witnessed.
Her name was Kailani Mena or something, so steer clear if you see her.
