4.2fm fibroid…
I’m 39.
Recent NHS scan showed:
multiple fibroids
largest is 4.2 cm
womb slightly enlarged and tilted backwards
ovaries are normal
They’ve also mentioned possible endometriosis/adenomyosis before, but nothing confirmed yet.
I’ve only had a transvaginal ultrasound so far (the internal scan with the probe and gel), no MRI yet.
A bit of background:
I was actually already on the waiting list for a diagnostic laparoscopy but cancelled my pre-anaesthetic appointment as I wanted to rule out adenomyosis first (non invasive surgery). At my latest appointment I had a scan with a probe and he said not Adenomyosis but the letter he sent still says maybe Adenomyosis…
Now things have shifted and they’re saying fibroids are the main cause. I’ve been put on a 3-month medication trial first, but honestly the meds only take the edge off — they don’t stop the pain. I still get quite constant discomfort, often on the right side. And I can feel the tampon inside me if that makes sense, if I cough or laugh hard I can feel it move almost? And yes it’s in there deep enough…just uncomfortable and I cannot sit straight when on my period, it’s even painful to be on my side. Any pressure on my bum to be honest is painful.
I’m just feeling a bit stuck because I feel like I was already quite far down the surgical route before I stepped back, and now I’m being pushed back into “try meds first” again.
I guess I’m wondering:
if symptoms are still impacting life and meds aren’t really fixing it, would you push again to go back on a surgical pathway / further investigation? Or is it normal to try meds first again even after all this? They gave me Melanie acid and tranexamic acids which helps with the clotting and heaviness but not the physical discomfort in my body and the pain.
Any advice would be helpful :) I have no females in my life to ask.
