Marketplace AI moderation crashing and burning

Today I see like 30 warning messages appearing in my notifications.

I suddenly have restrictions lasting 30 days for some, 1 year for another out of nowhere.

Clicking through the "more info" tabs this is all appearing from an AI moderation incorrect and totally irrelevant flag on one of my marketplace listings.

The "offending item" is literally just a charging dock that works with AI smart glasses.

The reasons shown as violations are stating stuff like "selling stolen credit cards". This has nothing to do with my account, or my marketplace listing. There is no photo or text anywhere in the listing that mentions anything about credit cards. Its a charging dock.

The penalties themselves are just as irrelevant and ridiculous - can't join a Facebook call, can't create a live video, can't change page names...?!?

I've seen countless reports of other people getting restrictions for serious allegations like distributing CP, or ATF issues - when they've never posted anything related to those topics anywhere.

I've had listings removed before because they decided a wireless Carplay adapter was somehow decided to be "racist against marginalized groups".

No clue how their AI moderation security is screwing up things THIS bad...and even Meta Verified support doesn't seem to understand and they are claiming to be manually reviewing the issues on my account or escalating the matter.

AI moderation is the absolute worst.

Airsoft vests removed as prohibited - but there are pages of similar and REAL self defense armor listed all over the site

I hate hate hate AI moderation and always feeling like I am having to become technical support for platforms I list items on.

I listed 2 airsoft vests, 1 black, 1 tan on Mercari.

Today I received messages on both items saying they were removed as prohibited items. They are literally just vests with pouches that LOOK like swat team/military style gear - used in airsoft matches to hold your accessories. They do not provide self defense, they are not bulletproof. They dont even have slots inside to hold any armor like the real ones do.

So then I search for "AIRSOFT" - tons of listings for airsoft guns, gear, accessories all over the site.

Then I search for "tactical plate carrier" - tons of REAL ones all over the site.

Several listings COME WITH the actual armor plates from brands known to provide bullet stopping self defense gear.

I search the brand "Yakeda" - and find several listings, so its not the brand name disallowed either.

So what exactly is prohibited - Mr. AI Moderation?

Are there any humans left who buy or sell on NextDoor marketplace?

Its been ALL fake profiles, bots, people who claim they really want an item but they are out of town or the country and must send their family member or business partner to retrieve the item.

Is NextDoor cooked for marketplace listings now?

I thought they were decent at banning fake profiles or requiring ID verification - but it is ALL scam messages for the past few weeks.

I get the same message above copied and pasted with a different number from several different accounts all in the same day.

Double check your "list to more groups" option.

Every one of my listings is set to auto-share to 20 groups when I list on marketplace.

I noticed a steady decline in my 7 day clicks metric, so I started looking at recent and older listings.

Despite the fact that it is set to share to 20 local selling groups, listings were only showing as "shared to 2 groups".

It is a pain to have to add more groups to share on each listing - but that happens when you have 5 or more listings STUCK in pending approval. So many of the groups have absent admins who aren't approving listings, or aggressive admin assist features, so once you have 5 stuck in the approval folder, nothing you are listing to auto share will be added to the queue. They get auto-declined - and you know admins aren't going to check their group activity settings to find these for you to allow the posts.

If you have post-preapproval, it may work just fine and show all of your listings being shared to a max of 20 groups - but so many of my listings were stuck at only shared to 2.

Most frequent sellers won't catch this sharing bottleneck and it it will have a huge impact on the amount of eyes that can see your items in local groups.

Hopefully eBay doesn't start going the route of Facebook Marketplace where I get random AI totally incorrectly flagging listings for something they are NOT even close to what they claim the flag was for.

Today I received an email notification vaguely saying that some listingS (plural) were removed for policy violations.

I check it and under a "removed items" tab it was only a single listing.

"What activity didn't follow the policy

Most electronic equipment used to transmit or receive signals or for surveillance are not allowed."

The item was a basic power bank. It has no camera. No surveillance power. It doesnt record or transmit or detect surveillance equipment.

"Item Title

10000mAh Power Bank, 2025 Portable Charger USB C, 22.5W Fast Charging Power Bank"

There is no text in the description or anything in the listing photos that could remotely get confused with being anything other than a power bank with a USB-C cable to recharge devices like a cellphone.

I was given a button to submit an appeal and type out an explanation, so I did as such.

On FB - I've had ridiculous "violations" like a motor-less kick scooter considered to be alcohol. Ive had wireless carplay adapters for a car flagged as "offensive to marginalized communities" or something. Those items would pass an appeal request and then get flagged again a week or 2 later in the same fashion so I had no choice but to just delete those listings off the platform.

No weird brand names or model types in any case.
