Tried to change the Ethernet cable from the ONT to the modem and it doesn’t work, why?

Noticed the cable from the ONT to the modem was a 5e and since I had a 6A lying around I thought I’d switch it, but the internet simply refused to work. When I put the 5e back in it worked instantly. I know the 6A cable isn’t bad because I tested it on other devices. Can it be some ISP stuff that only allows me to use the cable they originally installed?

Bought 2 access points to cover the entire house. Do I need to worry about interference?

House is big (thinking of drawing a 2d map to have, kind of like the ones I’ve seen on here, can anyone suggest a software? Or do I just go with paint?) so I had bought an access point to place on the far side to get WiFi there, I’ve had it for 2 years and it works wonderfully. The problem was WiFi didn’t really reach in the middle of the house (particularly, my room) and since I have an Ethernet port in my room I bought another access points. They’re both the same model, TP-link TL-WA 1201. I just installed the second and it seems to be working, but should I worry about the 2 access points and the main router interfering with one another? (Particularly, the middle one interfering with the others since the 2 at opposite sides don’t reach far enough) There’s some areas of the house now where I assume 2 signals overlap.

Do I just leave it as is? Would it make sense to set the 2 access points as 5GHz only? To my knowledge 5GHz has less reach so that’s why it came to mind.

Edit: of course the 3 devices all have the same SSID and password. Also is there any way I can check for overlaps in the signals?

questions about CAT cables, range extenders and future proofing

Once every sometime I get the urge to upgrade the network in my house and make it more efficient. House is one of the European ones with big thick walls and it’s pretty big but thankfully my parents installed Ethernet cables in the walls about 20 years ago. Current situation is that I got 1Gbps internet and multiple access points throughout the house to get WiFi everywhere, working fine but I was thinking about future proofing a bit.

  1. I do not know if the cables in the walls are CAT 6 or CAT 6e. I think it’s 6e, but I’m really not sure. Would I need to upgrade the cables in the walls to CAT6 (or 6a? Idk the difference) for speeds higher than 1Gbps? My current plan supports 2.5Gbps so I’d slowly move towards that even though no rush sine there’s literally nothing in the house that supports speeds higher than 1Gbps.

  2. The router the internet company gave me doesn’t have any 2.5 gbps ports. Would I have to buy another router myself? I’d assume so

  3. Would the wall outlets need to be changed? I’m talking about the piece that connects the cable in the wall to the cable outside the wall. Can those bottleneck my internet if they’re too old?

  4. What the fuck does a wireless range extender do? I’ve tried like 3 before eventually moving to wired access points but non of the ones I tried ever actually improved the WiFi’s reach.

Finally, what CAT cables are good for future proofing? Cat 6/6a enough?

▲ 8 r/movies

Watched it yesterday and I found it intriguing, and it’s been lingering in my mind of course(as relevant as ever as well), but while I feel like the movie leaves a lot of mystery on purpose, there’s a few questions I’ve been asking myself.

  1. Did Alice cheat on Bill? Based on their last conversation (“no dream is ever just a dream”), I would believe so.

  2. Who was the masked guy at the party who looks at Bill and nods at him? Thought it could be Ziegler (prostitute guy at the start), but it doesnt really make any sense since he couldn’t have known that was Bill when he was nodding at him. Was he just there to give the impression Bill was being watched?

  3. Was the pianist killed? I realise there isn’t a 100% true answer on this but maybe there’s some clues I didn’t pick up on. I think he was if that matters

  4. The whole Helena being “sacrificed” thing? I had honestly not noticed any of that until today when I started looking up stuff about the movie. It all seems quite far fetched to me to be honest. Does this interpretation imply that Bill and Alice want to join the cult? That they’re giving the daughter away to save themselves? That she got kidnapped without them even noticing?

  5. The mask on the bed. I just saw it as a “we know where you live and we’ve been here” thing but apparently there’s debate about that too? Is there more to it?

  6. We learn the woman who sacrifices herself to let Bill go was that prostitute he looked at at the start of the movie. But she couldn’t possibly have known it was Bill, right? How come she goes straight to him and says he must get out? I just don’t get that, but I believe there’s must be a reasoning for this one.

  7. This is again all speculation, but does the daughter of the costume shop owner suggesting a cape kind of imply she’s been one of the women at these parties? Or am I reading too much into it?

Thanks in advance.
