Islam is NEVER the problem - opinion

Atheist here who identifies as culturally Muslim. I am starting to conclude this. Abusive fanatics who under the guise and cover of Islam commit abuses. It’s MORE about abusing and exploiting religion for their own cynical needs, and LESS about Islam per se. For example, religious parents weaponizing Islam to abusively have control over their children (Islam serving as their pretext); to appear “self-righteous” or more “moral” than others; or to compensate for their own psychological illnesses (plenty got insecurities, unresolved adverse childhood experiences, or narcissism); or a monarchy using Islam as a mere cover to maintain their power (I think the Gulf monarchies particularly Wahhabism fits this)

We should stop conflating an ancient religion with the uneducated, uncivilized, mentally ill people who use and abuse it. Islam, a great religion, represents a proud civilization with massive contribution to mankind. Just about all Abrahamic religions, it has its bad and ugly elements.

Is your President popular?

Hey everyone! I’m Levantine who knows nothing about Argentina. Doing a simple google search, it looks like a nice place to live in. But it came to my attention from your right-wing Zionist zealous fanatical president. His inflammatory, provocative rhetoric and remarks are especially disturbing. Meeting Netanyahu and getting involved in a conflict that’s continents away from him is strange. This has upset many people particularly Arabs, Muslims, pro-Palestine and leftist population. I was wondering if he indeed represent the vast majority of your people ? Or not? Thanks

Anxiety over expected results date

The initial expected result date was set to be May 13-May 27. My kit is “in the queue for DNA Extraction” phase since April 22. They started extracting the DNA on April 29 (alerted via an email). Since then, there was no update whatsoever. I am very worried because it’s the saliva of my sick & very elderly relative (93+ years old). I’ve been fearing from potential DNA yield sample failure ?

Thank you so much for your feedback

Turkish citizenship through Ottoman descent

Hey everyone! I come from a well-known Levantine Sunni family. (I identify as Sunni in the sense of community, i.e., tribally, culturally, and politically speaking, never religiously). I always knew that in the late 1880’s and early 1900’s I’ve had 100% ethnic Anatolian (Turkish) ancestors. Stemming from the Ottoman Empire. We even have intact Ottoman documents from 19th century. I am neither a Turkish citizen nor my parents or my grandparents are. However, with the right support, I am likely capable of genealogically proving the existence of my Turkish ancestors by indisputable documentary evidence. The question is would this entitle me to a Turkish citizenship? I am fully aware that it would be tough and time-consuming but I am just psychologically attached to it. I have some sense of “Turkish pride” in me and I love Atatürk. So Turkish citizenship would boost my morale.
P.S. I appreciate in advance productive, helpful feedback relevant to my inquiry.

respectable, reliable lawyer needed

Hi everyone! It can be hard for diaspora clients to find a respectable lawyer, someone with credits, and who you can trust with confidential information. Potential concerns include being not professional, dishonest, or inflating their fees for diaspora clients. How best to find a list of lawyers candidates fitting my checklist while I am abroad? Are there specific online directories you could recommend? Other leads? Needing to get some paperwork transactions done involving properties in Algeria

Free Cooking classes ?

Hey everyone! I’m a student who lives alone. I’m interested in learning how to cook which is, in my a view, a vital survival skill I need. I’m NOT looking for learning a couple of recipes. Recipes are trivially easy because anyone can follow step-by-step procedure (algorithm)!outlined in a recipe. I am interested in learning the PRINCIPLES of cooking. The stuff that are fundamental to cooking, sort of “design” issues. What would be the best way to learn this? Thank you so much

Canada Post suck boo 😒 boo 😒

This institution has TERRIBLE service in that it’s VERY SLOW! I was sending a mail to a developing country in AFRICA and I foolishly thought that their state, government mail service would be slow and unreliable. They proved to me the OPPOSITE. Their mail delivered the item to my doorstep (crossing continents!!!) in literally 5 days!!! But it got stuck with the slow Canada post — despite being physically in the same city I am in — for an entire week and 2 days for stupid holidays and other administrative trivia

Crypto-currencies / blockchains inquiry

Hey everyone! I’m embarrassed to say that I’m completely clueless about anything pertaining to cryptocurrencies. I realize that this isn’t smart of me as it might be legitimate way of payment and even investing. I’m looking for someone who had actual experience with them, as well as substantial knowledge of these things to educate and teach me (if possible). I’d truly appreciate it. Thank you so much
P.S. you could DM me

Ignorant seeking your advice

Hey everyone! Please pardon my naivety but I am regrettably completely ignorant about personal finance and I count on this community for guidance and support. I got no family but luckily I got some very little bit of funds which are currently idle. I have around $18,000 idle fund and $7,000 in debt. Since I am unemployed and very frugal (with fragile finances), I wanted to use the funds in the best way possible that it generates the highest returns. What do you advise me? Specific investment-related products? Things to avoid? Bank names?
Any other pertinent, helpful insight would be highly appreciated. Thank you so much

Studying mathematics in top Moscow universities

Hey everyone! I’m a computer science student from North America and deeply discontent with my education here because instructors are horrible at pedagogy. (Other schools may be good but mine is not). Consequently, I’m literally taking my degree entirely from YouTube (to conceptually understand concepts deeply). Last year, I came across a mathematics PhD YouTuber who gave me many “aha moments.” He made me understand concepts in mathematics so deeply & philosophically to the point that led me to probe his background. I figured he studied in a prestigious university in Moscow in Soviet times and then immigrated to the US. He is so good that I am now considering at least going on exchange to his alumni Moscow university. What’s your feedback? Would studying at Moscow put me far ahead in deep conceptual understanding of math and STEM concepts? Or I am romanticizing Moscow over one professor? If yes in terms of putting me ahead, are there some form of scholarships or other funding opportunities?
