What bird is this. It was found in central Guyana. It flew into a 777 ADT and was scavenged. The head is missing but I think it may be an aracari.

Have you ever eaten this?

I have, in cutters. It tasted quite porky to me not a fan.

There's a family of about 20 that comes around almost daily.

The closed season for hunting in Guyana is May 1st to November 30th. Any breach results in a fine of 750,000 - 2,000,000 and a 3 year jail sentence.

Here's a look at a baby southern tamandua found in Region 7.

It got up in the trees before I was able to catch it.

Hopefully its able to reunite with its mother

Does anyone know of any local name for sloths?

This is a southern two toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus) with her young. They were relocated following bush clearing activities in Region 7. Two of the claws on her left hind leg broke when the tree was pushed down hence the blood.

Wishing her the best of luck.

I find it really interesting when research is done in Guyana and include a number of common names except the Guyana common name. Why do we accept english common name (US/England) and negate our own local names? Of course there sometimes is an overlap but by in large there isnt. We sometimes even have numerous local common names. I'm still working on my GitHub and there will be a folder for these common names. I will respond with the link once done.

Feel free to share what you know. Include which part of Guyana the local name is from.

I shared a post earlier but it was deleted idk why.

But I have no practical experience in bat surveys and my comapany is looking to do some bat surveys (gold mining).

I think i'll be ok on the mist netting aspect. IDing may be difficult.

But I'm more concenred about the acoustic monitioring. Whats the best recorder and software? Are there any datasets with bat calls from Guyana (I'll take South America if available)? Are there any books that may help with ID? Is there anything I should know or do before starting?

My company is looking to bat surveys and we want to incorporate acoustics. Are there any recommendations for recorders and software that would be able to work for bats in Guyana (South America)?

I need all the help I can get. I've never worked with bats before.

Hi I need help reconstructing this skeleton. It's from an armadillo found in Guyana (likely P.maximud).

What tools do I need? Where to start? Are there any books I can read?
