Digitech X-Series reset

Digitech X-Series reset

My son and I took up the challenge to reset the activation of an old Digitech X-Series pedal (in this case, a CF-7 Chorus Factory). Love the pedal, it gives off great tones...but hate the Boss-style footswitch. We decided to change that.

The first thing we did was get a dead X-Series pedal with the same jack and pot config as the pedal we're keeping. We stripped the paint, cut off the battery cover hinges, and drilled out the battery shelf to make room for the new footswitch

The next task was to take the baseplate of another old enclosure and cut out a new top panel for the replacement enclosure. The plan is to JB-Weld it in place on the enclosure we stripped and drilled out. The new top panel will support the new SPST footswitch.

We stuck it on with JB-Weld, let it cure overnight, and did some preliminary shaping. So far, it's doing what it should be doing. We might get some body filler and shape it up a little better before we paint it. Next task will be to remove the old button switch from the pedal's PCB and wire in the SPST footswitch.

Next step will likely be auto body filler to smooth out the edges and then paint.

I'm doing a rehouse of a CF-7 and It'll include removing the button footswitch on the PCB and wiring in an enclosure-mounted SPST momentary footswitch. I need to verify if the button switch on the PCB is NO or NC. That will tell me if I have to order a switch (I have NO's, but no NC's). Any info helps. THANKS

Got this from the GuitarsGarden drop in March as a mod platform. Turned out fantastic. Guitar arrived without issues and set up nice and quick. Yeah, I had to oil the fretboard and polish the frets a bit. Mods included:

- StewMac Overwound pickups

- Bourns push/pull tone pots so I could coil split both pickups

- Locking tuning machines from GuitarFetish

Thinking about a Graph Tech Resomax bridge at some point, but it's doing great as is for the moment. Tuning is stable and tone is amazing for the price point.
