Upcoming winter intake students.

Accommodation Challenge

Hello,

To all the students who have received admission letter and coming to TU Wien from this winter semesters, how is your residence permit application coming up?

After waiting for and getting the admission letter, it turns out RP application is another long process. The biggest challenge is finding accomodation. Student dorms are not available and the private space is not easy. How are you looking for accommodation?

I am coming in for masters in software engineering from India.

Admission Letter Received : Masters Software Engineering

Hello,

Today I received a positive admission letter from TU Wien for admission in Software Engineering Masters.
I sent my docs on 19th Jan, 2026 and it reached the university on 21st Jan. I reached out to them to ask if my application was received, and they replied back tomorrow. (Use contact form on their website to reach and attach your passport to identification of your application).

On the 10th week, I emailed for update and they said any update regarding application will be possible after normal waiting period of 12 weeks.
From 12th week on-wards I emailed them once a weak for update and response was the application is with the dean. On 14th week they finally said that they have posted my letter with decision and rest of my docs which I sent them initially(28th April, 2026). They gave me a tracking number, but it was not helpful as status there still shows that my doc is in Austria XD
Today (11th May, 2026) I received my letter.

Overall, 16 weeks of time was my guess and it that's how much it took. My suggestion is to send correct documents, properly legalized/appostiled, identify which document or proof will help in supporting your application.

I sent a true copy of my appostiled degree certificate, original appostiled transcript, ielts certificate (7.5), resume (since I was working for last 3.5 years so have to show what I have been doing since my bachelors), a document mapping the bachelor's program at tu wien to my bachelor's since I did not have curriculum or syllabus of my bachelors with me. I did this to make sure they understand I have covered the necessary subjects with enough credits, and I don't get any supplementary exam. I used credit hours to map equivalency.

If anyone is waiting, be patient the result will come. Expect 16 weeks and it will take as much time it takes. You cannot do anything to speed it up. Ones planning to apply, don't make mistakes in application, be thorough and you will get through. Don't create a scenario where they have to ask for extra documents, that will consume more time.

Now the next big challenge is finding affordable accommodation in Vienna which seems to be tougher than this :(

Best of Luck to everyone!

Posting it here since this community has been helpful and my experience may help someone.

Hello,

We (3 people), upcoming international masters student at JKU and on at FH Upper Austria, have acquired an apartment for rental at the start of September 2026 in Linz. We want to give out the living room (that is well separated from other spaces in the house, almost like a double room) as a shared room to 1 person, which would help reduce costs for everyone at a fair price. This room already has one taker so we need just one more.

Some points that you may want to know

We are not brokers and we do not gain extra money out of this (I have been as transparent as possible below). This will be a deal with a landlord directly, whom we have personally verified. We are looking for people who have completed all the steps of the process and just need to get their RP done.

  1. The location is about 30 min via tram to JKU.

  2. This is a 2 room, 1 living room apartment. Since the 2 separate rooms are small, only one person can live in each. The proposal is for the other living room. Total size of the house is around 70-80 m2

  3. There is one bathroom and one toilet. One storage room as well.

  4. The living room is significantly bigger compared to the other 2 rooms. 25 m2 (living room) vs 12 m2 vs 10 m2. Considering that this living room would be a shared space among 2 people, we are pricing this room much lower than our rooms. A balcony is also present attached to the living room.

  5. The rent starts from September only

  6. The rent for each person in this shared room would be 245-300 EUR (depending on the electricity and wifi costs; 245 qualifying for the rent only and the remaining 55 Euros taking electricity and wifi costs into consideration). I call this a fair deal because we would be bearing higher costs.

  7. The refundable deposit would however be split equally for an amount around 825 EUR plus the conversion fee, whatever that is divided among four of us, which has to be provided for the rental agreement.

  8. A very important condition is that you will have to stay for at least a year, after which you can terminate the contract by giving a notice period of three months (not our rule, but an ask from the owner as a part of the rental agreement).

  9. We are Indians and we do not mind other internationals.

  10. The living room is mostly separate. It has a door towards the entrance, which separates it from the other 2 rooms. Bathroom and toilet being common to all. The only other way to the living room would be the kitchen, which can also be closed by using a paravent/screen. The living room is not visible from the kitchen.

  11. The flat is unfurnished so bed, table, chair etc. will have to be bought or rented by each individual as per their need. The flat also does not have a dishwasher and dryer.

Reply if interested. Please ensure that you have sorted all the documents for RP out. Feel free to ask any questions and once we have all the tenants, will request the landlord to have a video call once again for a chat and view of the apartment.

Regards,

Pragyan

Hello,

I received my electronic admission letter today. Posting it here because this place has been very helpful, both in clearing my doubts and in meeting new people.

I applied on 6th feb, for masters in computer science and artificial intelligence.

Received message to send the docs via post, this is what they call improvement letter, on 9th march.

I posted my docs on 14th March and they reached and was received by university on 16th march. JKU sent me confirmation of receiving the docs on 18th March.

Received electronic admission letter today, on 22nd April, 2026, for masters in computer science. No result for artificial intelligence, I think it will come in sometime.

My admission letter is valid for 3 upcoming semesters.

I am from India. I have done my bachelor's in Information Technology (Btech, 4 years course). My cgpa is 8.86, though it does not matter a lot if your bachelors course work and ielts are good enough, is what I think. My ielts score is 7.5 , lowest being 6.5 in speaking.

I have 3.8 years of work experience as software engineer, but again it does not matter. Academics are more important, work experience does not play a big part in admission in Austria so its for the ones who ask question about work experience.

If anyone reading this has gone through the whole process, can you tell me when they send back the docs? They did not mention anything about sending the docs. Please let me know.

Thank you.
