The word "whimsy"

I can already smell the "where's your whimsy," or "you must be fun at parties" comments, but the word whimsy is yet another word that has been absolutely run into the ground by people on social media all collectively learning a new term. Plus, the word just sits like a rock on my tongue, it's not even fun to say?

It seems to be this kind of shielding word too. If you dislike something or criticize something that appeals to the whimsy crowd, you basically get called the grinch and told "well I guess there's no whimsy in your life!"

I feel kind of baseless here, but yeah. Needed to rant it out.

Found a rare, high-stakes specimen that I want to pin for a cloche. Never have pinned a bug in my entire life, should I do this??

Hey all, sorry if this is the wrong place for this discussion...

I recently found a luna moth, already deceased, with its entire body in perfect condition. I have never in my life pinned a bug, and my first thought was to do a cloche, not a regular pinning, since bell jar dioramas are my favorite things ever. I feel like I'm being overly ambitious, and I've been kinda stressed about it? I cannot find a video tutorial for anything but flat pinning and it's making me feel in over my head and overwhelmed.

It's mostly because I know it's a high stakes bug for my first attempt, and I love bugs so much so I'm scared to mess the specimen up and feel as if I disrespected it by trying to preserve it and failing.

More than anything else, I was kind of freaked out by my close friend last night flat-out telling me I am not qualified to do this, am setting myself up for failure, and that I should even ask somebody else to do it for me (which I don't wanna do, I wanna do it myself— maybe that's another bad misstep on my part ☹️).

Sorry for the rant everybody, I just really need advice here and for people more well-versed in this stuff to tell me with honesty if this is gonna be a bad idea. I am a huge huge huge overthinker, as I'm sure has become apparent in this post.

Also: if anybody can find some good tutorials for pinning winged insects into poses, I really would appreciate it. I have been looking for two days now and all of them are just flat pinning tutorials....

I have no idea why this phrase is such a pet peeve, like it just makes my skin crawl when people say "my man" when referring to their partners (not as in, "my man" like happily referring to a friend. I have no issue with that and it doesnt have the same effect on me?? Im so confused lol). I see absolutely nothing inherently wrong with the phrase and don't find it gross or anything, it just inexplicably gives me the feeling of cringe. Does anybody else have this same pet peeve and understand it enough to articulate why tf I am so peeved by it??! Lmao😭

Unfortunately it's at the end of its life and can no longer fly, so I've set up a kind of hospice care situation in my bedroom 😅 but it landed in my driveway this morning

I've never preserved & framed a bug on my own, but hope to do so after it passes— does anybody have advice on how I can do it without damaging it? 🥹 I'm new to bug framing

Edit: I am also maybe leaning to the idea of putting it in a cloche jar upright, which method is easier?

I've recently been into games like Grimshire, Creature Kitchen, and Cult of the Lamb (if you consider that cozy), and I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for other games that could fall into the casual/cozy genre, but with darker and more macabre theming :)

The main example I see of this is couples in line at theme parks who are basically hanging off each other while waiting. Annoying, obviously, but whatever — you deal with them for a couple hours and then never see them again. Just a tiny pet peeve.

It's more frustrating when it's someone you know, and you can't hang out with them without them gushing all over each other while you're trying to play Monopoly or some shit.

I feel like there is a sort of social awareness needed for this stuff. It's not a rule violation or whatever, which is why it's just a tiny pet peeve, but at some point it gets old and kind of as if they need to show how in love they are? PDA isn't always the way, basically

For me, it's dry begging. I cannot stand it, but haven't ever seen it ranted about on here! It is such a specific behavior with kids, but it is so annoying. I hate the idea of eating something and some kid with a snot trail on their face to be over my shoulder all like, "ohh I loooove those... those look soo good.... I like those too...."

Feel free to share all your specific pet peeves too. There's a lot to choose from

This is just a slight pet peeve, lol. I'm sure everybody has a friend who just knows a ton of people. Maybe I'm a buzzkill, but it's kind of annoying to have a friend encounter somebody they know at *every* stop we make, and then you're just kinda stuck there like when your mom sees somebody she knows at the grocery store and you just linger because you have no way of contributing to the conversation.

This is more of a pet peeve that has no solution, and I'm not even all that annoyed, but this basically happened to me last night haha. My friend and I stopped to around seven stores last night, and at five of them we got into this exact situation. All with different people she knew, while the stores were about to close and we needed to finish up what we were doing. It's more of a pet peeve because it's not like I want her to ignore them if she knows them obviously, so there's no way around this situation 😅

And the cherry on top is that somehow these local celebrity friends always pull the, "I really don't know that many people!" line. Like c'mon 😩 I don't care that you're popular, just own it and don't try and be overly humble about it

I rarely make DIY projects, since I'm not all too confident in my skills lol. Somebody in /taxidermy recommended I share it here too, so here I am!

Needed somewhere to keep my dice, and ended up making this coyote jaw offering dish for it! Next step is finding out where to keep it 😅
