I think someone may have gotten my real Instagram accounts banned while keeping a fake account of me active and I genuinely don’t know what to do now.
So basically, all of my original Instagram accounts got disabled some time ago for “community guideline violations.” I was confused at the time because I genuinely didn’t think I had done anything severe enough for permanent bans. Also, I was thinking they might've gotten suspended due to this ban wave going on.
Today one of my friends texted me asking if a certain account was me. Turns out someone is impersonating me using my identity/photos. While trying to report the fake account, I noticed Instagram specifically mentions banning accounts involved in impersonation/fake identity related violations.
Now I’m connecting the dots and wondering if someone mass-reported my real accounts as “fake/impersonation” while running an impersonation account themselves. The fact that the fake stayed up while my originals got removed feels extremely suspicious.
I don’t have concrete proof yet, so I’m not accusing anyone directly, but the timeline feels off:
My real accounts got banned.
Fake account appears/remains active.
My friends who've talked to that person have said they talk like I do.
Has anyone experienced something similar before? Is there any realistic way to get Meta to properly review this situation instead of automated responses?
