My first shiny and it was the only one I wanted!

I will start by prefacing by saying that I do not shiny hunt at all (besides Violet Paradox Pokemon, because I did like the all silver look), so this was amazing for me.

I recently bought a Switch 2 after selling my Switch 1. I lost all of my save data for every game. It sucked but I figured I would just start over. I’m at Rank X now and was just running around looking for a Larvitar and I happened to pass it. I can’t believe I found my first shiny and it’s the Gold Magikarp!

I’m a HUGE Gen 2 fan. It’s my favorite generation, so this one is the only shiny I truly care about. My first shiny of the game after so many months of playing this game. I’m ecstatic.

I finally hit my first milestone so this is a big day. I got back into the cards in January 2025 after no even knowing they still made them after 2003. I was ripping packs like crazy and having a blast, I realized that I enjoyed the chase of finding MSRP sealed and watching the value go up more than just the cards.

I started holding sealed around the end of November 2025 and built a system that would allow me to keep my total cost relatively low (around 10% of value). I would have much more but ripping is still a part of hobby and I enjoy doing it with friends, so I lost some value there.

Here’s to my first $5k and the next $5k.

I got a ping from a tracker that said that a local Best Buy had recently scanned in some Ascended Heroes posters and tins, First Partners, and Prismatic Evolutions items. I live 15 minutes away and was in the parking lot 11 minutes later. I walked in and asked if they had Pokemon, I was told “no, they were completely out”.

I left and waited a bit, my wife and kid were out at the time and wouldn’t be home for a little while so I had time. I went back in 30 minutes later and went to a different associate. I stated that I was there for the Pokémon. I was told again that they didn’t have any, so I pushed back and asked if they could just check the back for me.

I was then told that they did have Pokemon Cards but weren’t selling it until the morning. I respected that decision and left, but I’m puzzled as to why they would do that? Why would you want people waiting outside of your store all night, arguing, fighting, police being called, when you could just sell it to the people there the night before?

I have had this happen to me twice in the past week. So I really do want to know why. I just don’t understand how this benefits them. If anybody works at Best Buy, I could really use some insight as to why they would do this.
