(OC) I didn’t realize this was a blanket until she opened it

Have something visually interesting but no idea how to market it… what would you do?

Trying to get some honest input here because this isn’t really my bakcground.

We’ve been working on something that gets a pretty strong reaction when people see it in person. It’s one of those things that makes sense immediately visually, but is harder to communicate online.

We’ve had a couple posts do well organically, but it’s been inconsistent and we don’t really have a strategy behind it.

Right now we’re thinking about:

  • filming real reactions (like giving it to people or showing it for the first time)
  • short form content around those moments
  • testing different angles around gifting

But honestly, we’re kind of guessing.

Biggest challenge is that it feels like something that needs to be seen to click, and I’m not sure the best way to translate that into content that actually performs.

If you were trying to get attention around something very visual like this, where would you focus?

Would you lean more into:

  • street style content
  • influencers
  • paid ads
  • seeding content and hoping it spreads

Or something else entirely?

Would appreciate any direction from people who’ve done this before.

My wife’s handmade gift idea went viral… now we’re trying to figure out if it should be more than just a side project

This started pretty casually.

My wife was experimenting with an idea because she didn’t like how flowers as a gift only last a few days. She wanted something that still had that “bouquet” feel but was actually useful.

After a lot of trial and error (different fabrics, flower shapes, density, and folding methods), she landed on a version that’s basically a blanket that rolls up into a bouquet.

We shared it online and it got way more attention than we expected.

Since then, we decided to take a real swing at it and placed an order to produce our first batch of 1,000 units to see if this can actually become something beyond a one off.

Now we’re in a completely different phase and learning fast.

The biggest challenge we’re running into is manufacturing.

Because of how the design is structured, each flower still has to be hand-formed to get the look right. It’s not something that can just be fully automated or stamped out without losing what makes it unique.

That creates a few problems:

  • It’s time intensive to produce at scale
  • Costs are higher than a typical textile product
  • Quality consistency becomes harder when relying on manual work

At the same time, that “handcrafted” element is also what people seem to like most about it.

So we’re trying to balance:

  • Keeping the product special
  • While figuring out how to make it scalable and economically viable

We did put together a simple preorder to test real demand and price sensitivity as we await our delivery, but still very much figuring things out as we go.

For anyone who’s built something that didn’t scale cleanly from day one:

How did you approach that tradeoff between craftsmanship and scalability? Anyone take a side project that went viral and turn it into a viable business?

My wife made this instead of giving flowers… and honestly I think it’s a better gift

My wife has always loved giving flowers as gifts, but hated that they only last a few days.

So she started experimenting with making something that looks like a bouquet but is actually a blanket you can keep and use.

She went through a bunch of versions trying to get the flowers, fabric, and folding right this is the latest one she made.

I thought it was a pretty cool idea for birthdays, anniversaries, or even Mother’s Day since it’s kind of both a bouquet and a practical gift.

Maybe you have seen the crochet version, but we personally thought it was less comfy and giftable.

But then it got me thinking: is this something you’d actually give as a gift?

My wife made a blanket that folds into a bouquet so it doesn’t just die after a week

Took a while to get the right design. What do you think of the colors and pattern?
