HELP! Gone from working in Creative Industry to Corporate / HR

Hi everyone,

I need advice on handling the corporate 9-5 world.

I've retrained and used to work in music where things were a little bit more relaxed. I couldn't afford to keep working in music so have retrained and work in HR.

I'm doing alright I think! I'm trying my best and am staying away from the office clicks and doing my work to the best I can.. all that stuff. Most people are lovely, but I feel myself questioning my behaviour and feeling a hell of a lot more anxious about my perception than I did in music.

They’re quite dismissive here, but it’s a good company with way better pay then I’m used to. But I’m still an ‘outsider’ (been here 4.5 months).

Just had a nice chat with a manager and I just feel I put my foot in it and am completely spiralling. We were joking about her kids going round wearing chains and manbags and I made the stupid comment “yeah it’s funny they act like that and come from Parsons Green” and she went “well we’re not quite Parsons Green” (guys she 100% lives round that way.. I wasn’t just assuming) and then it was just awkward and the chat fizzled out.

Thing is I was just joking about these kids having a nice upbringing and I shouldn’t have done it. I’m on an FTC and really need this job and now I’m just freaking out basically.

How do you handle the social side in these offices?! I feel completely on edge!

Anyone else go to this the other day? Vibes were really off, security were really intense in and around the venue.. also not having a few sets outside was such a let down.

Last time I went to The Cause it was sick.. dunno if i'd be rushing back now
