Just sharing my experience, I had the same doubt before I buy and couldn't find a definitive answer, since you find opposite answers in the same post.

Instinct 3 Solar Tactical 50mm

Glass screen protector

JSYK, I live in a very sunny place, almost the entire year. Temperatures crazy high. As usual, today was a sunny day, not too intense but totally clear skys, not even the small clouds. Both for exact 30 min, 19 min difference between the end of Test 1 and starting Test 2.

Photo 1 - Without screen protector

Started at 14:28

39.0 Lux Hours in 30min

Photo 2 - With screen protector

Started at 15:17

43.6 Lux Hours in 30min

So, it does not affect anything. Better have the screen protector. The insignificant difference of +4.6 Lux Hours might be the sun aligning better directly to the watch. It was in the exact same spot and direction.

Although it charges, I dont think its good for battery health. Might be good for some emergency, or plan B.

Hello!

I need opinions on creating some data screens on my Garmin watch (Instinct 3 solar tactical), with data fields that can actually help me to get out of the forest, in case i'm lost during hikes or stuff like that. I like to be prepared in case, than not be and end up needing. If you have expirience in this situation, would be awesome and feel free to share

Let me create two scenarios:

I started a hiking and got lost far deep into the forest

scenarios:

  • A - I can track back the path, same way I came
  • B - I cant track back, I have to move in other direction

Feel free to add more data fields if you think its useful, but I separeted those below that I think might be helpulf, but how would you organize?

- The best activity to start at the beginning is "Track Me"?

ELEVATION FIELDS

Elevation - The altitude of your current location above or below sea level.

GPS Elevation - The altitude of your current location using GPS.

Compass fields

Heading - The direction you are moving.

Gps heading - The direction you are moving based on GPS.

Compass hdg. - The direction you are moving based on the compass.

Navigation fields

Off Course - The distance to the left or right by which you have strayed from the original path of travel. You must be navigating for this data to appear.

Other fields

Ambient Press. - The uncalibrated environmental pressure.

Baro. Pressure - The current calibrated environmental pressure.

Battery Hours - The number of hours remaining before the battery power is depleted.

GPS - The strength of the GPS satellite signal.

Sunrise - The time of sunrise based on your GPS position.

Sunset - The time of sunset based on your GPS position.

Time of Day - The time of day based on your current location and time settings (format, time zone, daylight saving time)

Temperature Fields

Temperature - The environmental temperature during the activity. Your body temperature affects the temperature sensor.

Timer Fields

Timer - The current time of the countdown timer.

Thanks all!

I'm new to the Garmin world, and I'm loving it! I got the MIP Solar version of the Instinct 3.

I'm using the standard watch face, beautiful but I wanted more spaces, so I'd like some watch face recommendations. I'm looking for one that displays as much information as possible.

I've heard about the "single field" but it's not compatible =/
