Advice on what my consumer rights are

I ordered products from a German website (reputable company) worth €270, unbeknownst to me that they will ship the package from the UK to Germany. Because of this, the package was then delivered to a DHL paketshop and when I tried to receive the order I was subjected to unexpected tax and fees. This was completely unexpected as nowhere in the shop was it indicated clearly beforehand that they will be shipping the package from UK. So I refused to receive the package as I did not want to pay for the taxes and fees. The package was then processed by the paketshop as “refused to accept the shipment” and was being returned to the sender (this is shown in the tracking).

The problem is since March 21st, there was no tracking updates from the shipment and is stuck on “The shipment arrived in the region of recipient and will be transported to the delivery base in the next step.” It’s been a couple of weeks now and it’s probably lost.

I contacted the website the same day I refused the shipment and explained that the import tax and fees were unexpected to me and the products are being returned. They replied that they will process a refund after they received the products. Also emailing them periodically about updates and most recently their reply to me is to contact DHL. I did so, but responded to them to initiate an investigation on their side with DHL as well. I am very worried because it appears the company shipped the package as a “Päkchen” which appears to have no liability. I did not know about this and had no control over it because I never took possession of the package.

Can anyone advise on this situation? What are my rights here?

Thank you in advanced!

Sellers: How do you avoid having customers claim something was missing in their orders?

Been selling on whatnot (trading cards) for a little more than a month now with about 750+ sold and occasionally (2 times) I would receive messages from buyers claiming their package is incomplete, most recently a buyer claimed that I sent every card out except for the hit card. This is untrue since I place as much integrity and honesty in this business as I can and I rewatched the whole stream and their ‘hit card’ was never in the break. I understand mistakes can happen on the seller’s end where they truly misplaced a card or some maybe taking cards out entirely. But how does honest sellers deal with this? I thought of taking pictures of the cards prior to sending but one can argue how would they know if all was really shipped. Maybe recording the packaging process? Let me know how you guys do it!
