Today is my birthday. My (46F) BF (50M) is going through some rough financial times, and I totally understand. That being said, his birthday gifts to me consisted of a fill-in-the-blank book which I got him two years ago for Valentines Day and he filled out his responses (totally cute and heartfelt), but also an opened bag of M&Ms from that same Valentines Day that I gave him (they expired June 2024) and an old book of bar games from 1962 he clearly grabbed from the shelf of his house. He tried to play off both items as just purchased at first, but I called him out after noticing the date on the M&Ms. I would have rather been given nothing than been given my own gifts back, minus the book of course. He tried to apologize, but now I’m just upset and angry that very little thought was put into my birthday at all really. AITA for being upset? Thank you in advance.
