I struggle with this concept in real life sometimes so I wanted to hear some opinions. This whole thing started with my friends and I talking about the concept of police. We literally subjectively hire humans in a human society to make sure we act right and punish bad actors. We do this voluntarily. We had no police during prehistoric times and most of history but then randomly decided to appoint some members of our society to police our conduct. Weird concept but it made us survive. So us, as humans, are we born good or are we born bad? Interested in your opinion.

Points for us being generally good:

1. We are quick to cooperate when a community problem arises.

2. Most people want to just live their life and be left alone and we respect it.

3. We partake in charity and help people in dire times of need.

4. Almost all human societies respect the elders and young kids/babies.

Points of us being generally bad:

1. Human selfishness. Our preservation depends on thinking about yourself. This is the main one that digs its roots into every aspect of our life.

2. Greed. The need to accumulate as many assets as possible. Whether it is money, food, clothes, cars, etc.

3. The need to fight wars without realizing are all the same and hating other humans just because they hold different beliefs.

Or are we born neutral and our life takes us in different direction based on life experiences?
