Rewatching TPM, I noticed something after Qui-Gon and Anakin turn away from Shmi.

For a split second, her face almost feels different — like she’s hiding something. Not joy exactly, but maybe relief… or the feeling that something she expected finally happened.

Maybe Shmi wasn’t just letting Anakin go.
Maybe she knew this was the only way out for him.

Am I reading too much into it, or could Shmi have had more agency than the films showed?
