Anyone Familiar with the Brand

Going thru some old boxes getting rid of things and trying to get a jump on spring cleaning. I stumbled on this in the bottom of one of the boxes. I remember buying it when I was only like 13 or 14or I should say I had my grandfather buy it for me when I was on vacation with them winter of that year down in gulf shores Alabama there was this cool store down there that had knives and lighters and I got this gravity knife and a Colibri laser sensor lighter. Trying to see if anyone had anymore info on the brand of knife tho.

Newest EDC Addition

I’ve wanted one of these Vosteed Martens for awhile now and had a reseller reach out on BladeBinge trying to get a few of my listings and told him what I was looking for and it all worked out. Wanted to put a heftier lanyard on it since it’s a heavier knife. I think it turned out pretty nice. Not sure what the knot is on the YouTube tutorial the guy didn’t have a name for it at the time of filming.

Barn Find

So I went to an estate sale point in a smaller farming town about 30-45 minutes out of my city and in the barn found this stone hiding on the back of a shelf higher than most people could reach. But I noticed the box from afar and had to see what it was.

You can tell by the box the stone was important to the gentleman who owned it first. It’s definitely handmade out of this beautiful dark wood and it is heavy duty. When I first opened it up in the barn the stone was a solid dark gray from end to end. Again telling me it was very well used by a craftsman for a whole lot of years. I was surprised at the price the woman hosting the sale asked for it and made sure to give her 4 times the amount and still feel like I got a steal.

I got it home and took some murphys wood soap to the box and some mineral oil to the stone. That’s when the stones true color started to reveal itself. I’m pretty sure it is a washita oil stone. Or at least that’s what google told me.

I am still new to my sharpening journey so I grabbed one of my budget baller knives and told my roomate to use it at work for a few days. I tend to baby my knives even the cheap ones when I’m the one who spent my money on them. My roomate however couldn’t care less. So he used and abused that little MTech folder for about a week before I got it back from him. When I first gave it to him it had a pretty sharp factory edge on it able to cut thru paper pretty easily. When I got it back not so much. But that was the whole point.

So I sat down that night with the beat up knife and my new stone. I rubbed some oil onto it and got to work. After about 5 minutes I was already seeing a pretty big difference in the blade. I spent another 5 minutes really refining the edge to the best of my ability before I took a strop to it and ran my paper test again. I was thrilled when it sliced thru with nothing but ease.

So needless to say I am very happy with the find and the purchase but I’m looking for some help from the community identifying what exactly I have. If it is a washita oil stone or something else. Maybe any tips and tricks for using it going forward. And lastly if allowed in this group how much you think it might be worth (one of the videos I watched when preparing to use it said they no longer produce this type of stone).

Either way I’m kind of glad my old lady dragged me out of the house so she could go to an estate sale and this has given me a reason to tag along in the future which will make her happy another win for me.

Help Identifying

So I recently picked up this piece from a Whatnot auction the seller didn’t think that it was working said it was over wound and I got a much better deal on it than I should have.

Once I got it I realized that it was not over wound at all and is actually in running condition. It looks like the second hand on the sub dial got broken tho and is shorter than it should be. I am terrified of ruining it or breaking it by pulling the back off to see what the movement looks like because it is in working condition. The crystal itself looks to be in great shape without any noticeable scratches or anything.

I’ve run some google image searches and come across a few that are similar but none that seem to match it spot on. Hoping that the community can help me identify what exactly I have here so I can decide what to do with it.

Temu Score

I recently got my CaseXX Medium Stockman and didn’t like having it just floating around in my pocket. I didn’t want it banging around with my change or lighter or whatever else would end up in my pocket at any given time. So I started looking into knife slips. I checked amazon first of course and didn’t find anything where the price seemed to reflect the value.

Someone had suggested Etsy which has all sorts of leather options. Different sizes and colors, some that can be customized and varieties ranging from ones that just hold a knife to full on organizers that can hold multiple items. But again prices ranged from $25-$50 all the way up to $150. Discouraged I decided to give up my search and shelf my new stockman for awhile until I got an overtime check or made a larger sale online and had some extra cash to get one of the more expensive personalized ones from Etsy.

That was until a friend of mine sent me one of those annoying messages from temu where if you share with enough friends you get to pick something for free. At the time I was already doomscrolling so I started browsing and the algorithm did what it’s meant to do after analyzing my most recent searches and within 30 seconds multiple pocket organizers were popping up. When I saw this one my expectations weren’t very high at all. But for the low low cost of $2.99 for ‘genuine leather’ I thought what could it hurt and placed the order. It took about 10 days before it showed up and when it did I could not have been more surprised and all and all very happy with it.

The leather is soft and not at all stiff but most importantly if holds exactly what I wanted it to. In the two front pockets I keep my Case XX Medium Stockman and my Olight Baton 3 Pro. There is a pocket in the back that is not split that I keep either a backup $20 bill or a silver coin in a flip so I always have some sort of currency. And lastly my Open Mini 2.

I was so pleased with the organizer I ordered 3 more in case the Temu quality decided to let me down the way it had with everything I had gotten before. That was 6 months ago and this thing has been in my pocket every single day since then with no problems yet. So I guess not everything on Temu is junk after all.
