I'm currently playing a version evolution/poly world. Where I started on the Indev floating islands and have been updating versions until I get to the modern day.

One thing I've noticed is just how wild the development of Minecraft has been. So many cool features have been removed from the game. Some have made a return, often in a gutted form. Like the different world types in Indev.

It's not just terrain either, many fun gameplay features have been removed over the years.

For anyone who is curious, the reason I build on Infdev 611 terrain is because it has a good mix of flat areas, rolling hills, crazy mountains, cosy valleys, and because it's an archipelago it easy to navigate over long distances. Also it's a blank canvas, no structures, no villages spawning where I want to build, and no caves/mines/ravines putting unsightly holes everywhere. To get the best of both worlds I generate modern terrain to the south of of spawn to collect resources.

For some reason I hadn't shown the Indev deep(256x256x256) floating islands in their entirety, and what they look like in an infinite world. By the way, this was done like this for lore reasons, basically there was a cataclysmic event that defined the rest of the world. If you are playing a poly world there are many ways to integrate floating islands more naturally using McEdit.

I'm currently playing on r1.6.4 and using Dynmap. I would've shown a full map earlier but the world is large enough the GoldenAge mapping programs will crash or run out of memory.

The globe icon is spawn. That area is Infdev 327 terrain. I built a road going west that travels through all the Infdev terrain generators. Everything north of spawn is generated in Infdev 611 and is the terrain I actually build on. To the south is r1.6.4 which I use to get ores and stuff. There's a rail line from the floating island base to that area.
