International travel
Hello everyone, I’ve got a bit of a dilemma.
My parents are divorced and I live with my mum around 70% of the time. We booked a last minute trip to Thailand for a little under 2 weeks and during that time falls under the time I’m supposed to go to my dad. Thing is, my parents practically despise eachother and I’m almost certain my dad will not agree to using his custody time for our travels as my younger brother has refused to go to him for a few months and he believes it’s my mums fault for not forcing him to go. I also missed my last weekend (this rarely happens) because I gave him the reason of having to study for the many exams I had the following week and my mums house has a better environment for that. He’s been ignoring me since.
Now, I believe it’s too late too be granted permission from the courts as 1, the trip is fast approaching and 2 we have to first ask my dad for permission before going to the courts. I’m not sure but I think that option will be lengthy as it’ll take time to get a court date and they might reject it as the travel time falls on his weekend.
My mum believes that because Thailand is a Hague Convention country, he doesn’t need to be informed but when I do some research, it seems leaving the country without the other parents permission is a crime, it’s just not clear if that also applies if it’s not the other parents custody time.
Any advice on any way we’d be able to leave the country legally considering our circumstances with be helpful and highly appreciated. Thank you!
