Anyone ever negotiated a mutual separation agreement? Im possibly on PIP* and there isnt much work to be done amongst my team. I also have another job lined up.

*The PIP situation is a bit unclear as my company does not seemingly have a standard policy here. There is no HR ticket etc that I can see. In theory I have been on PIP with no set deadline since October. My manager being on paternity leave during my PIP (and being kind of an absent manager) kept it open for significantly longer than it would have. I only just recently heard a hint from him that the HR case was still open but he was going to close it as he had seen improvement.

This job has been a disaster for awhile now. I have another job lined up I will start in July after some travel. In the meantime I would ideally quit as soon as RSUs vest shortly. I would also of course like to financially position myself well.

I fully understand the legal and financial differences between quitting and being fired in California.

Where I think this situation is unique is that there really isn't much work to do right now. The project as a whole chugs forwards but this is a small team in a big company. Leadership is amateur and focused on other aspects unrelated to my team. There's just not much work for me to do. Most days I show up and make up things up to do. Like I could give them two weeks notice but they literally do not need me past maybe a day to pass on a few tools I have been running for the team.

Given there is not much going on my only guess as to why I am still here is that they want to have me for a multi-month period over the summer where without me we would be down to one engineer**. Regardless I would like to go vacation mode ASAP after my RSUs vest shortly.**

I am choosing between:

  • A. Giving two weeks notice
  • B. Giving two weeks notice but asking them to tell me the soonest day they can do without me and leaving then.
  • C. Quiet quitting. Taking paychecks in the possibly exploring getting fired with severence. There isn't anything to do anyways. Will they notice? Adjust and give notice to leave if they do. Since there isn't much to do I really think there may be a way to do this without letting people down or really giving them an obvious "cause." I might have a shot at severance.
  • D. Mutual separation agreement.

Out of all C and D seem to be the most appealing with D being an obvious lead. But is that even possible? I just want to essentially negotiate some severance out of it and bring them to the table on the earliest day I can leave without creating bad feelings. I obviously would not tell them about my next role.

C is definitely ethically incorrect. But they really haven't treated me well and have been lying about so many things that have impacted my life and stress in major ways. Plus, I got majorly looked over in end of year promos bonus wise so a coworker who barely works but is a favorite could get a promotion. It almost seems fair to do the wrong thing here... I do not intend to work for this company or these people ever again nor do I think they would be successful enough outside of this role to pass interviews for a role on a team I might be someday looking to join.

I am considering moving to a place where this would be a part of my daily commute in the 8:30-9:30 am range. Looks like Fairfax ave does not have a dedicated bus lane and driving through there around 2pm there were certainly a fair amount of cars using it.

The schedule looks like it represents traffic. Between Hollywood/Vine B Line Station and LA Cienaga/Jefferson E Line I see 30m at 4:30am, 51m at 9:10am and it is similar time through the day till late.

I am a gay male in my late 20s weighing a move to LA. I have a job offer in Culver City near the E line. I am hoping to live in LA car free. Using just an e-bike (I am a very experienced cyclist), the metro, and occasional uber rides.

When looking at neighborhoods I really haven't found a happy medium between proximity to East Hollywood, West Hollywood, and or WeHo and an easy commute to the office (3 days a week). Being honest this mostly matters for "dating" which ideally is an option most days of the week and for having a good neighborhood vibe where I can feel safe.

The goal is that the commute is as easy as possible. 10-15m bike ride to the E-line maximum. Weekends I would ideally would be able to public transit+bike or Taxi to the gayborhood in under 30m. The neighborhood around where I live would ideally have a good number of gays and ideally have some options for coffee, bakery, treats etc.

I am visiting LA right now to find a good spot to start looking for apartment. I have started to look at like Koreatown, Mid-Willshire, or Mid City but am having difficulty telling how far away I can get from the center of gay life in these neighborhoods without feeling detached. Its also pretty unclear how difficult it is to bike from these spots to the e-line. Not seeing any class I or II bike paths that go that way.

Any tips/tricks/neighborhood suggestions appreciated. I am very open to most locations that fit my goals in case you can think of ideas that are seemingly further from the e line or are nearer to culver city. Perhaps LA will surprise me and there will be a rapid+reliable bus going N/S anywhere that connects the E line to WeHo, East Hollywood, Silverlake.

I am looking to see an Endocrinologist to help figure out if there is I (Male, mid 20s) can do to resolve my low sex drive. I have seemingly normal T and T free levels (among other hormones) per my PCP. Looking through the providers list for my insurance its wild how much the "Your share" estimates range and I haven't seen something quite like this before.

Top rated doctors are above 600$ as "my share" whereas the no names are as low as 130$. The average doctor with any good reviews is your share as 300$. I am used to paying 100-200$ out of pocket to see a specialist.

What is going on here? With other specialties I don't feel like I have seen this amount of variability. How am I suppose to get a sense of whether a less expensive Endocrinologist is worth it or if I am wasting my money?

I worry my concern here is somewhat splitting hairs. Low sex drive is not a terrible condition and it might take some time and creativity to figure out if anything can be done. Even then the results may be subtle.

So I get the obsession with cars is strong out here. I am not on a mission to change that. Certainly the city more built for that over anything else, however I am curious if there is another way for those who are fine with some inconvenience.

Personally my biggest issue with getting around in a car in LA is everyones descriptions of things taking 45m-2hrs to drive to. This, I feel is manageable, so long as I am not needing to be in the drivers seat. When it comes to busses I would generally take a 1+ hour bus to save myself from having to drive for 30m. That 30m feels wasted in a way a 1+ hour bus ride does not. I am also fine coughing up a few 100$ Ubers a month (I am guessing a ~1hr rush hour trip is roughly that?).

So my idea is to have an eBike. Combined with transit and rail I feel like I could efficiently get to many areas of LA only a bit slower than my peers. eBikes can go around traffic and I am an excellent biker. The kicker could be if the highways are built in such a way that they really impede efficient travel for vehicles that can't use them. If the destination is too far off I may do a long distance uber or transit till I am at a closer spot to uber from.

My office would be in Culver City off the E line and I am not sure exactly where I would live but I would love to:

  • Take my surfboard on the E line to Santa Monica
  • Go to WeHo to hang out with my fellow gays
  • Go to Koreatown for some incredible food
  • Get to a "flat" park I can rollerblade/skateboard around in with nice greenery (if such a thing exists in LA)
  • (But overall its really difficult to tell without living in LA where I will want to be)

To be clear, I can drive, I just hate the liability of having a car and driving it, hate the environmental impact if I can avoid it, and hate time spent behind the wheel that I could be using to do other things.

Never lived in an area where this is a problem (nor where it gets properly hot like in LA) but sounds like some units in LA don't have enough energy to support a window AC unit even if you installed one?

Is this something you can ask a prospective landlord when touring and expect to get a candid/accurate answer about? Is there any way you can sort of guess about this before?

I am surprised to see some apartments I figure would be imagine themselves as "luxury" (ex: a 2br 5512 Marina Del Rey apt at "Mariners Village" only some units have AC) not claim to have AC?

As an aside I hear a few people talking about "installing ceiling fans" and I am very confused on how that is supposed to work. Dont get me wrong I have switched out lighting fixtures in a renter friendly way but this feels like a whole something else.
