I can laugh about this now that a few days have passed. During Bulgarian split squat on Tuesday I brought my hands down to grey side to help in the bottom half range of motion and felt chewed up gum stuck to the bottom of the reformer 😭😭 my soul nearly left my body. That’s what I get for modifying I guess LOL
Really just want to rant right now!
I find this is a theme in practically every industry, not just medicine, but people without children are always expected to do more at work whether that be stay late, take extra shifts or work holidays.
This is particularly a problem in my husband’s residency class. He’s a surgery resident and almost everyone in his class has a child, or is expecting. I work in a really demanding medicine adjacent field myself so we are holding off on having kids until after residency when we have more time. That being said, because we don’t have kids right now, my husband ends up working more shifts than any of his co-residents and it’s making me so angry. One of his co-residents went into labor early and needed shift coverage for the next couple of weeks, and shocker my husband is covering over half of the shifts himself because no one else wanted to. You would think because they all have kids that they would want to help out a fellow resident with a child, but I guess not! When it comes to figure out their schedules, they’re always pushing him to work major holidays because they want to spend time with their kids. I get it, but he also has a family. I miss him! We don’t see each other enough and I want to cry every time he tells me that he has to pick up yet another shift.
Sigh. That’s all. I’m about ready to send all these people hate mail at this point (not actually).
Signed,
A woman who misses her husband
