The 1990 Kashmiri Pandit Exodus marks a mass displacement of the Hindu minority from the Kashmir Valley following targeted killings and systemic threats. Beginning in January 1990, an escalating climate of insecurity forced nearly 150,000 individuals to flee, a figure that eventually grew to over 300,000. Most relocated to Jammu and Delhi, facing property loss and cultural fragmentation. Despite government rehabilitation schemes and employment initiatives, large scale return remains stalled by persistent security concerns. Today, the exodus stands as a tragic, unresolved state of exile, representing the near total erosion of a community’s ancestral heritage and its physical presence in the Valley.
