Frederik Svane won the Sardinia Chess Festival. He is now the 3rd highest ranked player from Germany after Keymer and Bluebaum

Vincent Keymer kinda emerged first for Germany this decade.

Then Bluebaum emerged with his magical run in Grand Swiss. And decent performance in Tata Steel an Candidates.

Now, their 3rd highest rated member will be Frederik Svane who will be in 2657 Elo after this.

He will probably play Board 3 for Germany's Olympiad Team this year. Making Donchenko and Kollars go down at Board 4 and Board 5 (Reserved)

----

Frederik Svane won the tournament with a score of 7.5/9. An TPR of 2748.

Faustino Oro lost against Nepo in the Final Round of Sardinia Festival. His TPR is down to 2594. Are we sure he will get his Final GM norm requirement?

Everyone posting before Round 9 that even if he lost against Nepo. He will still have enough TPR to get a GM norm.

But here in chess.com. After Faustino lost against Nepo. His TPR dropped to 2594.

As far as I know, you need a 2600 TPR to get a GM norm.

Or maybe it is because he have tougher opponents. And his opponents average rating is higher?

I am confused.

Ironically, Chess.com themselves also announced earlier Faustino will be a GM. But now this.😅

15 yrs old Turkish IM just got a GM norm in Sardinia World Chess Festival

Probably another future 2600+ Elo GM for Turkey. He is not as good as Yagiz, or even Gurel.

But still, he is probably their 3rd best player among Turkish teenagers.

I am not sure if this is his first or second GM norm. But he had some great performance in European Individual Chess Championships in the past years.

His name is Atilla Kuru.

2027 NBA Draft Top Prospects: Who is the best prospect for next year in your opinion?

2026 NBA Draft is a few weeks away. And 2027 NBA Draft prospects are mostly committed to US Ncaa Teams or pro teams overseas.

But who is really the top prospect from 2027 NBA Draft?. Most mocks go with Stokes, Branch, or Smith Jr.

But in my humble opinion. Based on what I saw from them, I think Stefan Joksimovic is the best prospect among them.

Yes, Joksimovic is from Slovenia. So Luka Doncic will finally have another Slovenian peer in NBA.

If you are wondering, or you thought he was Serbian. It is because Joksimovic do have some Serbian blood/trace. (I think Doncic does too)

Still, Luka and Stefan will play for Slovenian National team. Finally, Luka will have some help. Especially with the Naturalization of Hayes.

Yes, going back. I think Joksimovic is the best player/prospect in 2027 NBA Draft.

Do you believe Knicks/Pistons have any chance against Thunder/Spurs in the Finals?

Everyone is saying whoever comes from the West will win the nba championship.

And with all due respect to Lakers and Wolves. I think most people will agree that it will be Thunder VS Spurs in the WCF. So, it is very likely one of them will be in the Finals.

In the East side. It seems like Knicks is now the strongest team. And Pistons have a little edge over Cavs. But still people think Pistons will win.

If it really happens. Do you think people are underestimating the top East Teams?

Can Knicks/Pistons have any punchers chance to upset Thunder/Spurs?

Who do you think won the Interhigh Tournaments?

This is all we know:

CHAMPIONS

2012

Spring National - ???

Summer Interhigh - Itachiyama

2013

Spring National - Ichibayashi

Interhigh - ??? (We only knew Date Tech made Top 16. They beat Karasuno in Interhigh qualifying finals)

2014

Spring National - Kamomedai

Interhigh - ???

2015

Spring National - Itachiyama

Interhigh - ???

---

We know the winners of Spring Tournament from 2013 -2015. Only 2012 was unmentioned.

It is the reverse for Summer Interhigh. We know Itachiyama won 2012 Summer Interhigh. But we don't know who won in 2013-2015 Interhigh.

Interestingly. We know in 2013 Interhigh Qualifying that Karasuno and Date Tech made the finals where Date Tech won. So Shirstorizawa and Aoba failed to even made the finals in Interhigh qualifying that year.

Do you think Ichibayashi's Best Players are among these 5?

Well, we will never know.

But this is the only panel scene we got from the 2013 spring champions.

We actually saw 5 players from them. 3 blockers, 1 libero, and 1 receiver. (Like Noya and Daichi for Karasuno)

Do you think their Ace is one of the blockers? Or nope?

Additionally, based on that shot. Do you think those 3 blockers are tall? As tall as Lev at least?

Jokic, Wemby, and Gobert matchups are interesting

I am not sure if I am the only one who noticed this. But these 3 Centers are kinda matchup dependent to each other.

As for their 2026 versions. I think this is how it goes.

  1. Jokic is more comfortable scoring against Wemby than against Gobert.

  2. Gobert is more comfortable defending Jokic than defending Wemby. (Gobert is not scoring on anyone much)

  3. Wemby is more comfortable defending against Gobert than to Jokic.

Are there reasons for this? Is it the playstyle? body built? physical strength? mobility?

Theory: Ichibayashi have representatives in other countries' national team

This is not impossible imo. Seijoh is a strong team. But they do not have a national player in Japan National Team. Well, their best player Oikawa turned out to be representing Argentina instead of Japan.

I think this might be the same case with a few players from champion Ichibayashi team.

Maybe, they have national level players in another country.

Maybe they are Dual Citizens. Or Naturalized player. Who knows.

Ichibayshi beat the 3rd seed, Komamedai, and Fukurodani to win 2013 Spring Championship.

Pretty sure they have strong players.

Total Chess World Championship Pilot Tournament: We will see Carlsen, Nakamura, and Ding all in the same Classical Tournament. (Fast Classical this time (45+30)

Magnus and Hikaru are already qualified.

Now, another 3 spots will be given to the top 3 highest rated payers as if June 1, 2026. Ding Liren is very likey to be one of those players.

(Foreest, Dominguez, and Nepo are battling for the last spot via this path)

This might be the first time we will saw these 3 players in the same classical tournament. (After them being Semi Inactive)

UNLESS, they all play in Olympiad in which case we will have back to back events where all of them are playing.

SCHEDULE

Olympiad - September

Total Chess - October

----

Note: Total Chess time control is 45+30. But it will be treated the same as 90+30 in terms of players standard ratings.

Who do you think will win each tourney?

For GCT Romania. It is hard to determine. As GCT Poland Rapid/Blitz is still in the blitz/final stages. So, it might affect their performance in the next GCT tour tournament. Fabi should still be the favorite in classical. And maybe Sindarov too. Though, they kinda struggling in GCT Poland right now.

For Norway, I think Magnus will win it again in his hometown.

As for Uzchess Cup. Defending Champion Pragg is not here. Hmmm, I think I will go with Nodirbek or Sindarov.

PS: Chennai Grandmasters will be next after UzChess but lineup not yet announced/confirmed.

Yagiz just proved that he can go neck and neck against top players.

He won against lower rated players like Zhu Jiner and Grandelius.

He drew against higher rated opponents like Arjun, Nodirbek, and Jorden.

And only lost one game against arguably the chess GOAT Magnus Carlsen. And it was a very tough game. They were equal until the end where Yagiz blundered in a drawn endgame due to time trouble.

I will not be surprise if YKE will be in 2028 Candidates regardless if he will only be 16-17 yrs old.

Nodirbek finally slowed down this year. After winning Tata Steel and Prague, Nodirbek kinda slightly underperformed in Tepe Sigeman relative to his current level.

After winning against Zhu Jiner, he drew all remaining games.

Then, he finally have a 1 week break before Wimbledon.

16 yrs old prodigy Sina Movahed just won the Baku Open by dominating the tournament with a score of 8/9. (7 Wins and 2 Draws)

Now, his rating will be flirting with 2600 next update.

Another prodigy to watch beside Yagiz, Oro, and Shogdzhiev.

Right now, Andy can be in big trouble. After some consecutive mistakes and blunder.

And this last move by Andy (Black pieces) which is Rc4 is a huge mistake.

Can you see why?

What is the best move for white here? (Don't chat)

u/Chesscrabble11 — 9 days ago
▲ 112 r/chess

Well, it is kinda a given since they are two of the lowest seeds alongside Andy.

But they are not that weak. Grandelius is still a 2600+ Elo GM. And Zhu Jiner is one of the strongest Female Chess players today.

However, they are being targeted right now by 2700+ Elo Elite GMs in Tepe Sigeman.

For those who forgot. This year (2026), Sinner didn't have a great start.

In Australian Open, he lost against (old) Djokovic in the Semifinals. (Djokovic lost to Alcaraz in the Finals after)

Then, in Doha Qatar Open. He was upset by rising star Mensik in Quarterfinals.

A lot of criticisms were thrown around towards him.

However, strating from Indian Wells. He dominated.

He won the first 4 masters this year:

Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, and Madrid

Very well deserved win and trophies/titles for Jannik.
